メンバーの死や脱退、内外の軋轢（あつれき）に悩まされてきたノー・ダウトだが、どんな時も楽しむことを忘れない。それは、この『The Singles 1992-2003』を聴けば分かるとおりだ。数々のトラブルで寡作（かさく）を余儀なくされていたバンドだけに、ほぼすべての曲がわずか3枚のアルバムから選ばれている。その3枚とは、『Return of Saturn』、『Rock Steady』、そしてメガ・ヒット作『Tragic Kingdom』だ。その他、セルフ・タイトルのメジャー・デビュー・アルバムを代表して、意表を突くスタイルのスカ「Trapped in a Box」が収められている。
繰り返しになるが、実に楽しい音楽だ。オープニングを飾るパワー・アンセム「Just a Girl」、ウルトラ・モダンでマドンナ風の「Hey Baby」、美しいメロディーと緊張感をあわせもったパワー・ポップ「Excuse Me Mr」、恋人との別れを歌ったシカゴ・スタイルのバラード「Don't Speak」、いずれも申し分ない。アナハイムのさえない一団が、グランジのネクラ男たちの泣き言に対する強力な解毒剤と見なされるようになっていった過程が如実に分かる内容なのだ。
ボーナス・トラックもいくつかある。トーク・トークの「It's My Life」の敬意に満ちたカバー、ダンス・メタル・チューン「Hey Baby」、レナード・コーエンを引用したキュートなナンバー「Underneath It All」のライヴ・ヴァージョン（グウェン・ステファニのヴォーカルとシンプルなアコースティック・ギターでつづられる）がそれだ。しかし、肝心なのは当然ヒット・チューンの数々で、本作にはそのすべてがある。ノリノリで、まぶしく輝く名曲ぞろいだ。アメリカでもっとも息の長い活動暦を誇るポップ・グループのひとつにふさわしい、見事なベスト・アルバムといえるだろう。（Dominic Wills, Amazon.co.uk）
