元OATMEALのメンバーを中心に９９年に結成したBANDWAGONのファーストアルバム。
「the brown study」収録のシングルの頃からBANDWAGONは好きで聴いてたのですが、
このアルバムはその頃よりはもっとバンドサウンドにより近づいてきた感じ。
比較的昔のほうが「何だこりゃ！？」的要素はあって衝撃度は薄れたものの、

それでもやはりBANDWAGON節というかそのようなものは健在で、
所々現れる変拍子なんかはツボ以外の何者でもないです。
曲としては＃８がいい具合にまとまっているのですが、
＃２なんかはのっけからあれ？あれ？という感じでドラムが入って個人的には好きです。

あとラストの曲もピコピコしたシンセがいい具合に入ったりリズムが少し変わっていたりしていいです。ラストのほうで入るボーカルエフェクトとかはもうツボ過ぎです。
他の曲に関しても細部まで作りこまれていてシンセの音を効果的に取り入れています。
エモ好きもロック好きもぜひ一聴すべきアルバムだと思います。

打ち込みやニューウェーブ、ダンスミュージックを独自の解釈でポストハードコア／エモに取り込み、唯一無二の存在になってきてる彼らですが、その原点はやはり純粋なポスト・ハードコア／エモ。それがよくわかる１枚です。

ＤＣポスト・ハードコアの影響も感じさせる練りに練った構成に緻密なギターの絡み、エモーショナルなメロディー、凝ったリズム展開、まさしく日本の生み出したエモの大傑作です。
ポスト・ハードコア経由のエモというとややとっつきにくそうなイメージもありますが、メロディーは少しストレンジながらもとてもキャッチーで、複雑な曲をやりながらもかなり聴きやすいものとなってます。構成する要素としてはNAHTなんかが近いかなと思ったり。いや、音は全く違うものが出来上がってるけど。

しかし和製フェイス・トゥ・フェイスとも言われたエモコアのOATMEALからBANDWAGON結成してこのアルバム、そしてその後のBANDWAGONの進化と、やっぱ奈部川さんは天才です。大好き。スウェーデンのエモバンドSTARMARKETが凄く好きってところも大好き。余談ですけどね。
