元The Doobie BrothersのMichael McDonaldの新作がCD/SACDのHybrid盤で再リリースされました。当然の事ながら音は格段によくなっており、CD盤を購入されていない方にはこちらをお勧め致します。私は既にCD盤を購入済みですが、こちらを最初に発売してくれれば間違いなくHybrid盤を購入しました。
このMichael McDonaldの新作はモータウンの往年の名曲のカバー・アルバムです。最近は良いアルバムを発表するもセールス的に不発に終わっていたので、”カバー・アルバム”と聞いて正直躊躇したのですが、聞いてみたらこれが最高に素晴らしいアルバム（！！！）に仕上がっています。スティービー・ワンダー、マービン・ゲイ、ダイアナ・ロス＆シュープリームス、テンプテーションズ等の往年の名曲がカバーされており、彼のファンだけでなくモータウン・サウンドが好きなファンにもたまらない一枚です。プロデューサーにはSimon Climieが起用されて「打ち込み中心」のアレンジを心配したのですが、Eric Claptonの最近のアルバムと同様にアーチストの音楽性に沿ったアレンジがされており違和感はあまり感じません。Michael McDonaldは今回はボーカルだけに専念してますが、Grooveの必要な曲にはちゃんとミュージシャン（Bass:Nathan East,Drums:Ricky Lawson等々）を起用しています。彼は以前からコンサートでもモータウンのカバーを度々演奏しており、ファンの方はその音を思い出して頂ければ良いと思います。
こちらのHybrid盤も日本盤と同様にFourplay（Bob James,Larry Carlton,Harvey Mason,Nathan East）とのボーナス・トラック１曲が追加されています。今年の私のベスト・アルバムはやはりこれに確定です！以上

ブルー・アイド・ソウルってあんまり聞けないんですが、このＣＤはなかなかいいです。
最近モータウンなど、７０年代の太くて黒い音を発掘中なのですが、こういう好企画盤を見ると思わずにやりとさせられますね。
昔から好きだった二曲目（スタイリスティクス）や、珠玉の４曲目（テンプテーションズ）などなど、もうたまりません。
あまり黒さを感じさせるアレンジではないのに不思議と味があるのはどうしてなのでしょうか。
これは、ソウルと言われる曲が持つもともとの魅力なのかと考えさせられます。
歌が実に素敵です。
どうやったらこんな声が出るのか。。。
すこぶるいいです。
