ブラジルの大都会のずるく殺伐とした人々と風景は残酷だけれどもどこかユーモラスで嫌な感じがしない。
これは作者が意図したものなのか？
映像にも時折はっとさせられるショットがありとても良いリズムで見飽きないです。
最後のドーラの笑顔に、思わずこちらまで優しい気持ちになり、
幸せと言うものは、どこにいてもいくつになっても自分の中に湧き上がるものなんだと思い、
爽快な気分で見終えることが出来ました。

本当に素晴らしい作品だと思います。

　ブラジル映画であるこの作品は、ブラジルのありのままの姿を描写しているといえよう。
　それは、単に万人うけを狙ったものでもない。こういう作品を見ると、今日の映画が利益追求のみで制作される、ありきたりのシナリオに則ったものであると痛感せざるを得ない。
　とはいえ、クライマックスでは非常に感動しました。
　だからこそ、本当の映画の感動を味わえる作品の一つだと思います。

ひょんな事から知り合った、身寄りの無い子供と定年退職後の女教師。子供の父親を探しに広大なブラジルを旅する。海岸線位置する超巨大都市「リオ・デ・ジャネイロ」と内陸部の砂漠地帯セウタォの対比が美しく印象的。少年と初老の女性の間に起こる心情変化が、みる人を感動させる。

大勢の人が駅始発の電車に乗り込むシーンは日本のラッシュアワーのマナーの悪さの比ではない。

お祭りでの万華鏡のシーンも自然で子供のころを思い起こさせる。

とにかく自然な演技と美しい情景、微妙な心情描写が本作品のうり。
アカデミー賞受賞もうなずける。
