   聴く喜びが次々にあふれ出てくる驚くべきプログラムだ。幕開けを告げるのは、ジョン・コリグリアーノによる1985年の作品「オスティナートによる幻想曲」。ベートーヴェンの第7交響曲の緩除楽章から主題を採り、素晴らしくも情感豊かな方向へと一気になだれ込んでいく曲である。続くベートーヴェンのピアノ・ソナタ「テンペスト」は、きわめて真っ当な解釈で演奏されている。同じくベートーヴェンの「合唱幻想曲」作品80は、部分的にピアノ・ソナタであり、また部分的に第9交響曲の習作でもあるという魅力作だ。ピアニストのグリモーは、繊細さと力強さを交錯させながらこの幻想曲を弾いている。

   ディスクの最後を飾るアルヴォ・ペルトの「クレド」は、ピアノ独奏と混声コーラスとオーケストラのために書かれたもの。ラストに置かれたこの複雑で味わい深い作品は、いくつかの点で、それまでの3曲の情感とテクスチャーを内包していると言える。ペルトを静謐（せいひつ）で神聖なミニマリストと考えているリスナーにぜひ聴いていただききたい。たぶんショックを受けることだろう。

   グリモーは、時代や様式にこだわらず、ひたすら格調高い演奏を繰り広げていく。音色の美しさはこれ以上考えられないほどだが、それ以上に表現力の高さを特筆しておきたい。エサ＝ペッカ・サロネンは、スウェーデン放送交響楽団および同合唱団を丁寧に指揮している。これは実に特別なディスクであり、あなたのコレクションに欠かせない1枚だ。（Robert Levine, Amazon.com）

アメリカの現代作曲家ジョン・コリリアーノの「ファンタジア・オン・オスティナート」に始まり、ベートーヴェンのテンペスト、合唱幻想曲と続き、ペルトの「クレド」で終わるという、一見意表を衝いたプログラム。

コリリアーノの作品は、ベートーヴェンの第７交響曲をモチーフにしたもの。合唱幻想曲は第９の下敷きになった作品。「クレド」は、バッハの平均率クラヴィーア曲集の第１曲をモチーフにした宗教作品（信仰の告白）と見てくると、一本芯の通ったプログラムであることがよくわかる。

この中で唯一”普通の作品”であるテンペスト。意外と普通の解釈だが、見かけによらず骨太の力強いピアノだ。しかし、ポリーニなどの強靭かつ繊細な表現を聞きなれた耳には若干違和感もある。で、マイナス１.

さて問題の「クレド」であるが、これは１９６８年の作品。ということは彼が、「フラトレス」「タブラ・ラサ」などの作品で世界に衝撃を与えた、ティンティナブリ（鈴鳴らし）様式に至る以前の作品である。
ロストロポーヴィッチの委嘱作品であるチェロ協奏曲（１９６６年）とほぼ同じ時期で、この時期のペルトの特徴がよく現れた曲といえるだろう。

ペルトを称してミニマリストという人が多いが、それは違うのではないかと常々思っている。この「クレド」とティンティナブリ以降の作品群とは表現は大分違うが、方向性は同じだと思う。
