活動暦34年目にしてやっと発売された4枚組みセット。収録曲は、前身バンドのアルバムから3曲。ファースト・シングルから2曲(当時のA/B面)。アルバム「Rio Grande Mud」からのシングル曲"Francene"のスペイン語バージョン。80年代リミックスバージョン4曲。ライブバージョン等々、今では入手困難なレアもの多数。
その他全ての曲は、ZZ TOPとは30年近い付き合いのマスタリング・エンジニア ボブ・ラドウィグが、オリジナルテープからリマスターしたもの。特に初期の曲は顕著に音がクリアです。そして、プロデューサーには、4人目のZZ TOPと呼ばれる「ビル・ハム」！
15,000プレス限定のリミテッド・エディションは、特性ケース及び、秘蔵フォトや解説が満載の80ページにもおよぶブックレットなど特典付き。ただ、余分なオマケが不要な方には、ノーマルバージョンをお勧めします。同じ解説は付いています。
ベスト盤的に聴けるので、ファンはもちろん、代表曲しか知らない方にもお勧めします。

やっと出たZZTOPの４枚組みボックスセット。
ZZTOP以前のバンドから、レアな１２インチシングルまで網羅したファン狂喜のアイテム。
なぜか紙製の組み立て人形のバーベキューセットとパラパラ漫画がついてる。（いらねえ！）
彼らの名作をほとんどすべて網羅しているので、これもってたら一日中ZZTOPで遊べます。
彼らはギター・ベース・ドラムの３人の３ピースバンドで基本はテキサス仕込みのブギである。
長い髭を自慢しているのも特徴です。
８０年代に「イリミネイター」やシンセを導入したアルバム「アフターバーナー」がヒットしてバック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャ−３の主題歌にも曲を書いたり、日本のスクーターのCMにも出たりしたりもしてました。
とにかく彼らはロックじじいって感じでかっこいいです。
特にビリー・ギボンズのギターがかっこいい。
泥臭く、ブルージーなその音はあちらでは長距離トラックドライバー達に演歌のように愛されているようです。
何故かｵﾌｨｼｬﾙのライブビデオが出ていない不思議なバンドでもあります。

「とにかくｶﾞｿﾘﾝ･ｽﾀﾝﾄﾞでのﾃｰﾌﾟの売り上げが凄いんだ！」ずっと昔にTVの音楽番組のｲﾝﾀﾋﾞｭｰでZZ TOPの関係者が証言していたのを思い出します。このBOX-SETを聴けば解りますが、基本的に彼等はただのﾃｷｻｽのﾛｰｶﾙ･ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞなのです。今でこそ、超ﾄﾞ級のｱﾒﾘｶﾝ･ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞの象徴の様に評されていますが、ZZ TOPがｳｫｰﾙ街のﾌﾞﾛｰｶｰ達ではなく、ﾄﾗｯｸ･ﾄﾞﾗｲﾊﾞｰの様な“ﾛｰｶﾙのﾌｧﾝ”達によって支えられていることを忘れてはいけません。それは、ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞのｽﾀｲﾙ~ｻｳﾝﾄﾞが、時の流れをおちょくることはあれど（※「俺達はｼﾝｾｻｲｻﾞｰを使ってﾄﾞﾌﾞ掃除の音を出すんだよ!」）全くﾏｲﾍﾟｰｽと言うか、「俺達、これしかできないもんね!!」「奴等はこういうのが聴きたいんだよ！」と言わんばかりに、痛快かつ潔く一貫していることと無関係ではないでしょう。それが計画的犯行なのか、神の悪戯なのか･･･んなこたーどーでもよくて、僕達はﾌﾟﾚｰﾔｰのｽｲｯﾁをONにして、ZZ TOPが掘った深~い落とし穴にﾄﾞｯﾌﾟﾘはまり込むことにしましょう。このBOX-SETを買った方はもう二度とそこから抜け出せません･･･。都会のすかした奴等の上等な靴に泥を塗ってやるのが大好きな方、今すぐamazonにｵｰﾀﾞｰを!!!

ZZ TOP以前の曲が聴けたのもよかったが何よりもその音質が魅力。声、楽器それらの音の生々しさにあらためてこのバンドの素晴らしさに触れることができました。
