このアルバムの内容については、他の方のレヴューに詳しいので、多くは書きませんが、その演奏の高度な表現力、密度、スピード感は凡百のギターアルバムを簡単に凌駕してしまう内容。言い尽くされた言い方ですが、今時めずらしく「真摯な精神性」を感じさせてくれるアルバムだと言えます。私は早速「国内盤」を買い求めましたが、高度な演奏内容に反して、音質の悪さに一聴して驚愕してしまいました。全体的に音の分離が悪く、各楽器はダンゴ状態。音に伸びと広がりが無く、ラジカセ並みのシユワシュワとした高音の甘さ。故障だろうか？と思いオーディオ装置の点検まで行いましたが、異常は認められず、単に録音の悪いＣＤなのだろうか・・・と諦めかけていると、帯の片隅に「コピーコントロール」の表示が！気にせず買った私も迂闊でしたが、噂に聞くＣＣＣＤの音がこれほどだとは思いもしませんでした。これでは、ジェフベックの「ギターの破壊者」ならぬ（！）、「音楽の破壊」。このＣＤをＣＣＣＤにした人の意図を知りたい。私にはパット・マルティーノを聴く人々が、パソコンでコピーして友人に配るとは到底思えないのですが・・・。そんなわけで、このアルバムを買う人には、躊躇無くこちらの輸入盤をお薦めします。

　パット･マルティーノの大ファンである私にとっては、待ちに待った新作。アルバムには記載されていないが、ジョン･コルトレーンへのトリビュート色が強い力作である。まず、メンバーが凄い！　Joe Lovano(ts),Gonzalo Rubalcaba(p),Christian McBride(b),Lewis Nash(ds)の実力者がバックを固める。それぞれのソロも充分楽しめる。

　1は再評価されているピアニスト ハロルド･メイバーン作曲のファンキーな曲。アルバムタイトル曲2は、"Coltrane Tenor"の文字を音階に当てはめてフレージング･モチーフにしたパットの力作。印象深いテーマから、パット→ルバルカバ→ロバーノとソロが続く。3はパットお得意のリフ曲。4は透明感のあるスローナンバー。

　5のコルトレーンナンバーは、気合十分の力演。6はスローで始まるがテーマ後にテンポアップ、パット十八番の反復フレーズも簡潔に展開される。7のバラードから、ラスト曲8の軽快なテンポへと続く。良く練られた選曲とテクニシャンの安定感ある演奏は、今アルバムの完成度を高めている。パットのファン必携、コンテンポラリージャズに挑戦したいジャズファンにもお奨めの１枚！
