1975年作品。ここ二作でのザ・バンドとの活動によってロック色を強めたディランだったが、本作は一転してアコースティック・サウンドによる穏やかな印象のアルバムになった。サウンド面での変化もさることながら、詩の面でもこれまでと一味違う味わい深い作品が多く収録されており、特に「愚かな風」は“七十年代のライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン”とまで評される。このアルバムのセッションは二度行われ、当初はディランのみによるものだったが後にミュージシャンをかき集め、アルバムの半分の曲のレコーディングをやり直して発表にこぎつけた。ディランの第二次ピークに生まれた歌の数々はいずれも質の高いもので、このアルバムは彼の最高傑作のひとつに数えられている。全米最高1位を記録する大ヒット。

アコースティック・ギターを中心としたシンプルな演奏。各曲のクォリティが高いので、そのシンプルさがメロディや詩の美しさを際立たせる。
ディランならではの革新性という点では他作に譲るが、アルバムとしてのトータルの完成度という点では、これが文句なしのナンバーワンでしょう。

キース・リチャーズが80年代のインタビューで言ってました。「ボブに会うたびに言ってやるんだよ。『Blood on the Tracks』みたいなのをまた作ってくれってね。」

２００３年、僕はこのＣＤを二度買いました。一度目は廉価盤、二度目はハイブリッドの最新リマスタリング盤で。旧盤は流石に音が薄っぺらく、バンド・サウンドの厚みが感じられなかった。「ブルーにこんがらがって」も「愚かな風」も、ディランの最高傑作であるだけに、この高音質盤で聴いて、ようやく納得できる。とは言っても、音質が良くなったからといって、音楽の質まで変わる訳ではないのだけど。逆に言えば、買い換えたい、と思うくらいの内容だった、ということ。「７０年代の最高傑作」という謳い文句に嘘はなく、充実した内容となっている。いきなりフォーク・スタイルに行くよりも、まずこの辺でディランの独特な歌い口に慣れておくといいかも。2なんて、相当良いです。

タイトル「血の轍」がぴったりはまる、情熱的な作品。特に素晴らしいのはディランのボーカルで、まさに身を削って声を出している感じは、他のアルバムでは聴くことができないほど。
それゆえ、ちょっと雰囲気的に重たい、というきらいはあるけど、感傷的な気分でドライブでもしている時には恐ろしいほど心に沁みますよ。歌詞も男女関係のもつれを男の立場から切々とつづった歌が多く、共感できる部分も多いはず。
もちろん「ブロンド・オン・ブロンド」等、マスターピースと呼べるアルバムを数多くリリースしているディランですが、初めて聞く人はこれがおすすめです。「ロック」「ブルース」等の枠に捉えきれない「ボブ・ディラン」という人物の圧倒的な存在感に、きっと驚きます。
