ジュディ・ダイブルに代わり、サンディ・デニーをラインアップに加えた、フェアポート黄金期の開始を告げる一枚。デニー作の寂寥感漂う「フォザリンゲイ」、当時在籍していたイアン・マシューズ作のポップな「ブック・ソング」、そして、フェアポートの代表作の一つ「ミート・オン・ザ・リッジ」等、曲は粒ぞろい。フォーク系の作品が好きな私にとって、「フォザリンゲイ」は、今でもフェイヴァリット・ソングの一つで、この一曲だけでも、作品を買う価値はあります。

1stと比べ、如何にサンディの存在が大きかったかがわかる。
スタイルとしてはジェファーソンからバンドやバーズ風な優美な音楽性も加わった感じでしょうか。
サンディとリチャードのギターによるベストトラック、
果敢ない物語を醸し出す"Fotheringay"が秀逸。
イアン・マシューズの声はあまり表に出てきませんが良い仕事しています。
やはりリードボーカルというよりコーラスワークのほうが良い印象がありますね。
"Book Song"は彼のフェアポート時代、最大の功績ではないでしょうか。
サイモン・ニコルの弾語り"End of holiday"も小品ながら素敵な仕上がりです。
よくピックアップされる曲以外にも素晴らしい作品で埋め尽くされています。
この作品から3作品が彼らの代表作とされてますが、これが私の一番お気に入りです。
