ブレッカーブラザース復活第一弾のこれ、"ブレッカーブラザーズの逆襲"（笑）は、随分と愛聴しました。一発目の"Song For Barry"からいきなり快調に飛ばしていてすんごいかっこいいです。この曲のランディ、マイケルのソロも素敵ですが、マイクスターンのギターソロで終わるところがクールなのだ。二曲目はやったぜ！デビッドサンボーン！ブレッカーブラザースと音色がマッチしていて痺れますね。ヴォイスが、"これでまたエキサイティングな物語が始まるよ~ん！"と宣言していて素晴らしい。最初の１~３等、プログラミングでやってますが、どうせ復活するなら新しいことすっぞ！と意気込みが感じられてかえって良い。しかし、続く４曲目からデニチェンことデニスチェンバースがバキバキ登場でこれも凄い。この曲でのマイケルのソロが例の超高速フィンガリングでぶっちぎりです。８はバラード、ランディのソロが歌心があって心に沁みます。あとは最後の"六本木"。これが凄いですね。マイク、ランディもりもりソロをとってお腹いっぱいです。最後にコメントすると、 Max Risenhooverのドラミングというか、ループのセンスがとても良く天才です、このお方。ジェイソンマイルスみたいなセンスの人とお見受けします。

'80年の"Straphangin'"を最後に活動を解散した70sフュージョンの雄、ブレッカーBros.。12年振りにランディとマイケルがブレッカーBros.として吹き込んだ再結成第一弾が本作('92年作)。
70sの絶頂期から付き合いのあるファンは別として、正直、90sという時代にどこまで彼らのスタイルが受け入れられるのか懐疑的な見方が先行します。がしかし、流石にプロフェッショナルな彼らのやること。あっさりとそのような素人考えを払拭してくれています。
二人が各々のフィールドで過ごしてきた時間は決して互い(ブレッカーBros.として)の要素を希薄にした訳ではなく、素晴らしい肥しになったようです。
録音技術やガインストルメンツの進歩、時代に則した感触を充分に考慮されたと思しき音作りは、非常に滑らか。デジタルっぽさはあるものの、これまでの作品にはあまりなかったワールド・ミュージック色などもあり、単なる昔の焼き直しではない点も評価できます。
＃曲中でサムスカファンクのテーマを入れる辺りはご愛嬌(^^;
しっかりと聴かせるツボ(技巧的な円熟というのでしょうか)も兼ね備えた彼らは、流石に時代を引っ張ってきただけのことはあります。

2007/1/17付けの新聞で、M.ブレッカー逝去の知らせを知りました。T_T
