７３年ＳＪ誌ジャズ・ディスク大賞銀賞受賞作だが、録音は１９６９年１０月２２日、コペンハーゲン、カフェ・モンマルトル。ソロ・ピアノ・ライヴだ。学生時代にジャズ喫茶で初めて聴いてそのスケールの大きさに感銘を受けた作品である。ダラー・ブランドは昔の名前で今はアブドゥラ・イブラヒムと名乗っているが、１９３４年南アフリカ生まれの人。一応８曲に分かれているが、最初から最後まで連続して演奏されるから、８部構成の組曲と考えてよいだろう。ゆったりとしたリズムの反復にのって時にフリーな展開を交えつつ奔放なメロディが湧き出す冒頭のブラ・ジョー・フロム・キリマンジャロから魅せられ、後は緩急自在のペースに引き込まれる。全体を通してアフリカの雄大な大地のイメージが鮮明に伝わる名作だ。

特筆すべきは録音状態の良さ。キース・ジャレットの７３年リリースのアルバム「ソロ・コンサート」より間違いなくピアノの音はシャープに捉えられている。私個人は２００３年にリリースされたエディションのルビジウム・クロック・カッティングによって収録された音に満足している。キース・ジャレットのソロ・ピアノ・ファンにも是非聴いて欲しい。

１９７３年ジャズディスク大賞銀賞受賞アルバム。このときの金賞がマッコイタイナーのエコーズオブアフレンド（これもピアノソロ）。この年はピアノが熱かった。このときにレコードを買っておりにつけ本当によく聴きました。一応８曲になっていますが、組曲のようになっていて、ほとんど途切れ目はありません。レコードではＡ面の最後がフェイドアウトし、Ｂ面の最初がフェイドインしているくらいです。ＣＤでは裏返す手間がなく最初から最後まで集中して一気に聴けるので、ありがたいことです。ピアノ好きの人必聴。

大傑作!!
一曲目の最初のピアノの音がでてきた瞬間から、のめりこんでしまう。
とてもソロ・アルバムとは思えない音の密度は、発表から数十年経った今も色褪せない。今後も愛聴するであろう一枚。
