1952年8月21 - 2002年12月22日。享年50歳で幕を閉じた、偉大なる元クラッシュのフロントマン、ジョー・ストラマーの遺作。本作は、ジョーが亡くなる直前まで録っていた声を、残りのメンバーが作品に仕上げたもの。計10曲収録予定のうち、1曲はボブ・マーリィの『リデンプション・ソング』カヴァー収録予定。ファン、アーティスト多くの人々が悲しみにくれたジョーの死後にリリースされる今作は、ザ・クラッシュ再評価の中で大注目される1枚になる事は間違いありません。

   ジョー・ストラマーが死去してしまった今、『Streetcore』を冷静に検証するのは容易でなくなっている。頭に思い浮かぶものといえば果てしない悲哀の念、そしてコントロール・ルームに取りついて離れない亡霊と思い出ばかりだ。しかし、ザ・メスカレロスのスコット・シールズとマーティン・スラッタリーはいい仕事をしている。自分たちのエゴを抑え、偉大な男ストラマーをセンター・ステージに立たせ、彼がいくつかの形式を再発見したことを明らかにしているのだ。

 「Get Down Moses」はディープで便所臭い、いかにもなクラッシュ節。ストラマーが若者と落ちこぼれに対する不変の愛を吐露し、大音量のキーボードが渦巻くように降り注ぐ。「Long Shadow」は放浪者のフォーク・ソング。「Ramshackle Day Parade」はボブ・ディランとビートルズをかけ合わせたような作風。「Arms Aloft」は高揚感があり、わずかにサイケデリックな味を感じさせるロックなチューンだ。

   しかし、本作で最高なのはストラマーが沈黙する瞬間だ。リック・ルービンと共にレコーディングされたボブ・マーリーの「Redemption Song」には、アイルランド風の刺激的な味付けがなされており、ストラマーの心のこもった歌声や自由のために戦う男というパブリック・イメージにぴったり。もうひとつのカヴァー曲「Silver and Gold」では、自分が年を重ねる前に起こさなければならない行動についてストラマーが思いをはせる。その後の彼の運命を思えば残酷な内容といえそうだ。

   だが、これは悲しいアルバムではない。むしろ聴いて喜ぶべきなのだ。ミュージシャンたちは今なお、貨物列車（freight train）で旅することができ、単なるカネ（gravy-train）目当てではなく、本気で何かを訴えることができるのだから。学び直すべき重要なレッスン、このうえなく素晴らしき師がここにいる。（Dominic Wills, Amazon.co.uk）

昨年末、突然天国へ逝ってしまったジョー。
オレたちは、その正直な生き様と音楽を自然をとことん愛した
ジョーの姿勢を忘れない。

そんなジョーと仲間たち、メスカレーロスがレコーディング
していた幻の音源がサードアルバムとしてリリースされることになった。
気になるその内容は、いきなりクラッシュが帰ってきたようなR&Rナンバー
で幕をあける。

もうこれだけでブッ飛び！文句なし！！
ジョーのファンなら誰もが涙することだろう。
今回のアルバム、前２作と比べても音がラフなのがまたいい。
バンドとの関係も、丁度脂が乗っていたんだろうと思わせる
まとまりのあるサウンドでジョーとの呼吸もピッタリ。
ハイライトは、今年の朝霧JAMでもステージから流されたボブマーリーの

「リデンプション・ソング」。この感動的なカヴァーには、
彼の言いたいことがめいっぱい詰まっている。
ラストには、ジョーがキャンプファイヤーを囲みながら仲間とワインを
飲んでいるときなんかに愛聴していたというルイジアナのR&Bコンピ盤
『ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT』のトップを飾っていた知られざる名曲、
「BEFORE I GROW TOO OLD」

アコギで切々と歌うジョーは、きっと最愛の娘さんに向けて歌ったん
だろうなぁ。そう思わせる歌詞で、これまたじーんときた。
ジョーが大好きな人もそうでない人も、このアルバムを聞きながら
酒でも酌み交わし、元気よくこれからも生きて行こう。

こんな素敵な作品を残してくれてありがとう、ジョー！！！

さて、あいかわらず到達点不明な愛すべきジョー節が満載なこの作品。
クラッシュ時代の喧噪もどこへやら、変なＴシャツ一枚でのメスカレロスとのライブ映像が思い出されますが
隠遁者としてのジョーの魅力が詰まった、彼ラストの作品です。
しわがれたジョー節。曲の統一性もない。
それがジョーストラマー。
朝焼けを連想させるこのアルバムは爽やかで、彼の歩んできたキャリアも、旅立つジョーの背中をもを明るく照らし出すものであります。

joeが５０歳という年齢で他界してしまったがJoeの歌声を聴いているとまだ生きているような気がする。でもJoeはこの世にいなくなってしまったが魂だけはやっぱり皆の心の中に置いておいたみたいだ。今このStreet Coreを聴いてそう思う。このアルバムは生きたサウンドと歌詞が聞く人々の心の中に届き、魂として宿るそんなアルバムと僕は思う。このアルバムはカヴァ2曲とボーナストラックが４曲含まれている。あと、音楽ジャンルも幅広く使われている。Long Shadowはフォークの中でも一番のお気に入りだ。Joeの心の中にはロックンロールの魂が宿っているという証の曲でもあると思う。僕も簡単にこのアルバムの事は説明できない。でも、Joeがこのアルバムに力の効いた歌詞の魂とサウンドの魂を是非CDを買って実感してもらいたいと思う。そうすればJoeのやさしさと厳しさが理解できるだろう。貴方は今Joeのように輝いてますか?
