~中後期のミッシングリンク的価値甚だしい未発表曲集、それも溜息まじりの驚愕モノです。公式盤で段階的にしか掴めなかった音楽の変遷が面白いように明かされています。
マシーンの最重要ミッシングリンクは、レーベルもタイトル連番も、独自性も最後になったSevenと、よりメジャーな感覚のフュージョンに接近したBundles~~ の間でしょうか。本盤はその架け橋を果たしています。
本盤のBundles収録曲はSixやSevenと毛色が同じで、8としてリリースされてもおかしくない音空間です。1stテイクのHazard Profile~~ 1などは、従来からのテーマとアドリブの二部構成ではSeven直系なのに、リフに別のメロディーを加えたBundlesリリース直前のテイクでは、曲構成が複雑化してBundles系です。とはいえ、従来の空間的なアレンジも残り、8というタイトルを冠しても不思議ではないですね。これは新旧マシーンのミッシングリンク且つ発展のピークだと思います。スタジオ盤にはない奔放でま~~ったく違った切り口のアドリブや発展して来たミニマルでスペーシーな浮遊感もあり、従来のファンを決して裏切らない作品です。~

~Wyattが抜けてからRatridgeが抜けるまでの演奏。個人的にはWyattが抜けるまでが最高と思っているが、こちらも決して悪くない。最後はAllan~~ Holdsworth参加した曲まで。音質は全く問題ない。演奏も相変わらずの緊張感の高いものばかりでSoftsのファンであれば十分満足できると思う。それにしても30年も経って、発掘されるとは、しぶとい。いかに当時のSoftsが積極的にステージをこなしていたかの証だろうか。もっともっと音源が出てきて欲しい。(二枚組だが収録時間は合わせて80分ほど。もっと入れてくれれば~~良いのに)~
