   映画のスコアを書く場合は、最高の部分でさえ、なかなか芸術作品のように高度な技を発揮することができないものだ。何とか売れる要素を盛りこむことができれば上出来というのが現状である。ベテテラン作曲家、エリオット・ゴールデンサルもそんな問題に直面することになった。『フリーダ』でメキシコの民俗音楽をたっぷりと取り入れた至高のスコアを書き上げ、オスカーを獲得したゴールデンサルだが、その直後に手がけた本作は、よりハリウッドの伝統に縛られたアクション映画だったのだ。

   ゴールデンサルは、『タイタス』や、あの驚異的な『ファイナル・ファンタジー』でも披露した陰うつでダークな魅力あふれるオーケストレーションを駆使することにより、壮絶でリアルなスタントが続出する映画本編の雰囲気を見事に伝えている。そして、ここには「売れる要素」もしっかりある――ロック調のギターと激しいリズムが何度となく顔を出すのである。これらはまるで、マーケティング上の必要性に迫られて付け加えられたようにも思えるが、さすがにゴールデンサルはしたたかだ。ファーストフード感覚のスコアでも堂に入ったところを見せ、ダニー・セイバーやアポロ44といった面々から提供されたトラックに少しもひけを取っていない。この路線をもう1歩推し進めたのが、「Don't Shoot Me Baby」や「Three Chords in Two Minutes」（作曲者による楽屋オチといえそうな曲名だ）といったタイトなトラック群だ。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

映画は評価が低いですが音楽はかっこいいです。
『S.W.A.T.』のあの場面が思い浮かんできます。
迫力満点です。
