「軟弱なアルバム」という先入観を抱かれたとしても、ある程度しょうがないだろう。選曲にしてもアートワークにしても、お手軽なイージー・リスニング・ジャズを予想させるような印象がぬぐえない。ところが、実際に聴いてみれば印象は一変する。このアルバムはなかなかどうしてクオリティが高いのだ。
ピアニストが2人クレジットされているが、「ホワイト・クリスマス」と「あなたに楽しいクリスマスを」を弾いているマーク・ヴァン・ローンがこのグループの現在のメンバー。明らかにビル・エヴァンスの影響を受けており、耽美的なハーモニーとセンシティヴなタッチで青白く輝くようなミステリアスなサウンドを作り出している。
一方、「クリスマス・ソング」や「きよしこの夜」などを弾いているカレル・ボエリーはヴァン・ローンの前任者で、ややブルース色の強い演奏をする。フォーク・ジャズ、ボサノヴァ、ジャズ・ワルツなどにアレンジするセンスも優れている。全7曲で30分足らずと短めだが、充実感は十分だ。（松本泰樹）
