『ラヴィン・ユー』は、1975年4月にビルボードのヒット・チャートでナンバー・ワンとなりました。

5オクターブとも言われる彼女の美しいハイ・トーン・ヴォイスが特徴の曲ですが、元々は彼女の子供たちに歌った「子守り唄」なのです。
スロー・バラードで、バックに小鳥のさえずりがずっと流れているもので、彼女の名前を一躍有名にした曲です。Ｒ＆Ｂという範疇を超えて万人に愛されるポップスですね。
その愛すべきバラードは、その後日本でもヒットし、今でもよく聴かれています。

この美しいメロディーを彼女はとても優しく慈しむように歌っています。良く聴けばとても難しいオクターブ以上の跳躍も難なく軽やかに歌いきっています。テクニックの凄さを感じさせないところに天性の歌姫の才能を感じます。
甘さと温かみが内在する声質や、ハートフルだけれど、透明で可憐な歌唱がまた愛される所以でしょう。

スティーヴィー・ワンダーに見出されて、プロデュースされたこの「ラヴィン・ユー」は大ヒットしましたが、その4年後、31歳の時、乳癌のために亡くなりました。2人の幼い子供を残しての旅だちです。歌いつづけていたら、ダイアナ・ロスを超えるような大歌手になっていたかも知れませんのに。

ミニー・リパートンへのリスペクト溢れるMISIAの可憐な歌声もまたステキですが、本家の愛らしさは格別です。

「ラヴィン・ユー」は、30年経った今でもよく聴かれています。その透明でステキでキュートな歌声は、ＣＤの中に今も息づいています。
