   山本精一を中心とする関西歌ものバンドの5枚目だ。前作『はじまり』はバンド・アンサンブル中心の、いわばサウンド指向の作風だったが、今回は歌そのものに比重を置くという、羅針盤の原点に戻ったような作品になった。演奏は過度に盛り上がったりせずにミニマルな平坦さを貫き、ギター・ソロなどの装飾も後退したことで、ほのかに明るく穏やかなメロディーと、山本のやわらかなヴォーカルが前面に出ている。

   冒頭の「あたらしいひと」や10分以上に渡る大曲の「会えない人（月）」などは、このバンド史上屈指の美しいメロディーといえるだろう。研ぎ澄まされた言葉が並ぶ荘厳な歌詞の世界もあわせ、派手ではないが静かに胸に染み入ってくる、珠玉の8曲となった。“羅針盤流ポップス”がひとつの極みに達したといえる傑作だ。（小山守）

山本精一の声とギターが一体となって、どこか別の世界へつれていってくれるような響きをうみだす美しいメロディ。

そして虚無的な詩。深いあきらめを淡々と受け止めて、それでも生きていく。そのむこうに微かな希望をみつけながら…。

がんばることなんてない。僕は眠っているのかどうかわからない心地に落ちていきながら、癒されるために今日も羅針盤を聴く。

羅針盤というバンドをみなさんはご存知ですか。昨年発売されたスピッツのカバーアルバムに“ロビンソン”で参加し注目を集めたバンドです。私は、このバンドの音楽に出会ってから、自分をとりまく風景の見方が変わりました。漆黒の闇に光の粉をまぶしたような、優しくはかなくキラキラした珠玉の8曲。収録されている“会えない人”“小さなもの”で（とにかく、歌詞とメロディがいいんです！）、救われた気になりました。たとえ、それが幻想や妄想だとしても、私はこのバンドの曲に出会えたので進んでいけると思っています。知らずのうちに「無理強いされた共感」なんかじゃありません、気づいたら、そっと傍にいるような。心からありがとうと言えたアルバムです。
