基本的には、バンドの時には出来なかったことを一気にやってしまったという印象です。エレキギターの多用、オーケストラとの共演、ブラスセクションの導入等々。根底にあるものは変らないんだけれど、ちょっと大げさなアレンジにとまどうようなところもあります。バンドではいつも変化に富んだリズムを聞かせてくれますが、それも影をひそめています。フィッシュのトレイ・アナスタシオやティム・レイノルズ、ダーティー・ダズン・ブラス・バンドといったところとの共演も話題になるでしょうが、何よりもこのアルバムで特筆すべきは、表情豊かなデイブさんのボーカルでしょう。ジョン・メイヤーといった若いフォロワー達も台頭著しいですが、やはり本家の威禄といったところでしょうか。

ところでこのアルバム。最初の印象はそれほどよくなかったんですが、聞き込めば聞き込むほど味が出てきます。皆さんもじっくり聞いて味わってください。

ソロアルバムゆえ、バンドとは違った印象であることは当然なわけで、ここでは、ストリングスの導入などバンドでは演らなかったことを強調しているような印象があります。スリリングなバンドサウンドが無くても、彼の曲やヴォーカルのスタイルは完全に確立されたものであるといえるでしょう。ただのソロプロジェクトとは思えないような内容です。

しかし、これほどのアルバムを創られてしまうと、バンドとしての活動はどうなのかが心配。バンドで演奏しても良いくらいの内容なので・・・。

夜明け前のような青みがかった景色のなかで、カメラに目線を向けていないデイヴ。このジャケット写真が本作品（59分21秒）の音楽のすべてを象徴しています。すなわち、もちろんトラック３、７のようなやや激しく、ソウルフルなロック・ナンバーもあります。でも、おおむね、リスナーの目／耳にとってたまに暑苦しくなるようなもの――たとえばジャム・セッション――はまったくなく、ゆったりとやさしいかぎりのヴォーカル／アコースティック／ストリングス演奏が主体です。ジャケット写真をわざと青みがかったものにしているのと同じで、やや念入りにブルー（憂鬱）を煽っていわゆるレイド・バックや音響効果が加えられている一方で、他方、聴こうというこちらの強い意志がないと、あっという間に聴き終わってしまうアルバムですね。聴き込むほどにすばらしいです。
ボーナス・ディスク（29分54秒）は、Dave Matthews & Tim Reynoldsによるアコースティック・ライヴ。トラック・リストは、1. Grey Street, 2. When The World Ends, 3. Jimi Thing, 4. Stay Or Leave, 5. Seek Upです。それぞれ、2003年3月20日から4月3日までのライヴ・テイクで、同じ場所で録音されたのは、4月3日の１と４のみ。そして本アルバム（ディスク１）収録――ライヴの時点では新曲だったことについてトラックの冒頭にデイヴのMCあり――の４以外はライヴでもおなじみのデイヴ・マシューズ・バンドのカヴァー。たとえアコースティックでも、やはりレコードのように繰り返し聴けないライヴなので、演奏もヴォーカルも細かい技巧はなく明快です。
三つ折デジパック・ケースもかっこよくていいのですが、ブックレットにはクレジットのみで歌詞が印刷されていないのが残念です。

最初聞いたとき、なんかひとつ気に入るの曲も見つけなかった！しかし、二回目から、だんだんよくなった。今はもうこのalbumは最高だと思います！是非聞いてください！
