前作『明日のために』から1年。さらに一歩進んだこのアルバムからは、ここ数年、西村由紀江が追求してきた“こころの平安”への穏やかな、それでいて強固で優しい意志が静かにあふれる。心地よく親しみやすいメロディが、知らず知らずに堅くなったこころを解きほぐすようだ。

冒頭のピアノの響きから、無防備さを感じたのにはちょっと驚いてしまった。何気ない、身構えのない音。西村由紀江もこんな録音物をつくるようになったのか……。86年のデビューから17年、ずいぶんキャリアの長いプレイヤーになったけれど、一昔前の彼女は、時代の気分も反映してか、人工美と言うべき世界をつくっていたと思う。そして聴くがわもその作品たちに対して、何となく遠巻きにする関係を保とうとしていたように思う。けれど、今の彼女の音からは、たどりついた心地よい場所に居続けよう、という静かなつぶやきが聴こえてくるかのようだし、ぼくたちはその声なき声に小さくうなずいたりもする。時代は、あるいは世界は確かに変わった。あちこちに現れるどこかで聴いたようなメロディも、彼女にとっては“今”への愛情の現れというところだろう。そんな思いに応えるように、録音もインティメイトな響きを届けてくれている。……きっと、こんな聴きかたは、感傷的すぎるのだろうけれど。 (榊順一) --- 2003年11月号
