21世紀、ガレージ・ロック・リヴァイバルのブームと絶妙にリンクしつつ、にわかに盛り上がりはじめたポスト・パンク／ニュー・ウェイヴ・リバイバル。そのブームとともにシーンに浮上したLAの5人組アイム・ア・ロボットのデビュー・アルバムだ。メンバーには、ベックのバンドのベーシストだったジャスティン・メダル・ジョンソンや、そのベックやR.E.M.他のセッションで知られるドラマー、ジョーイ・ワロンカーも名を連ねている。
ギクシャクしたファンク・ビートをベースにしたダンス・ナンバーと、首を絞められたようなかん高い歌声は往年のディーヴォやトーキング・ヘッズを思い出させる。まだ、リバイバルの域は脱していないものの、メンバーの不敵なルックスは、まだまだ何かやってくれそうだ。（山口智男）
