ジャズボーカルって退屈、シャウトは嫌い、ふだんジャズは関心がない、聴いたことがない、
そんな人にこそお勧めする１枚です。

メンバーの豪華さ、歌唱力のたしかさ、アレンジの巧さ、ハーモニーの美しさ、
なにより聴く人を退屈させない構成の見事さ・・・

ジャズマニアだけでなく、"音楽ってこんなに愉しい"ってことを誰でも実感できることでしょう。

シェリル・ベンティーンは、有名なマンハッタン・トランスファーのメンバーですが、このアルバムは、彼女をメイン・ヴォーカルとして、「TAKE 6」のメンバーや他のゲストメンバーらで結成したコーラス・グループによって、ジャズ・コーラスの良さを満喫できるアルバムに仕上がっています。

冒頭の「ムーンライト・セレナーデ」から聞き惚れましたね。シェリルと男声３人によるア・カペラのハーモニーは、Ｊ.Ｊ.Ｌｅｅのゴージャスなアレンジの良さもあって、マン・トラとは別の良さが醸し出されています。ジャズのア・カペラ・コーラスとして、多くの人に聴いて欲しい出来映えです。

スタンダード・ナンバーの「マイ・ワン・アンド・オンリー・ラブ」のどこか懐かしさを感じさせるような温かいハーモニーの美しさは、万人に愛されると思います。リード・ヴォーカルのシェリルの歌声は、ハーモニーに溶けこみながら、それでいてしっかりと音楽の中心にいるのがよく分かる演奏でした。

ライナー・ノーツに書かれていましたが、プロデューサーのコリー・アレンの編曲による「タル・テイルズ」の冒頭に歌われるバロック調のフーガの掛け合いは、スゥイングル・シンガーズへのオマージュに溢れていました。技術的に難しいスキャットですが、メンバーは本当に達者ですね。

ケビン・マホガニーをフューチャーした「ハウ・ハイ・ザ・ムーン」も好きです。ケビンのヴォーカルは、秀逸でした。有名な「不思議の国のアリス」「キャラヴァン」も良かったですし、イギリスのパート・ソングを彷彿とするような「シンス・ファースト・アイ・ソー・ユア・フェイス」も楽しく聴きました。
全編を通して、マン・トラよりもコーラスの幅を感じたアルバムです。

彼女の所属しているマンハッタンランスファーもいいですが
このアルバムは特に色んなコーラスやハモリがあって玉手箱の
ようです。Moonlight Serenadeのアカペラは落涙ものです。
How High The Moonもシック。Tull Talesのスキャットはクラシカル。
ハーモニー大好き人間にはお勧めです。
