   2年にもおよぶツアーを終え、すっかり貫禄が出てきたブラック・レベル・モーターサイクル・クラブ。この2ndアルバムで、彼らは一気に飛躍を遂げた。バンド名を冠したデビュー作の派手なギターワークと不安定なドラムは影をひそめ、代わりにご機嫌なサウンドが楽しめる。前作では、フィードバックと分厚いサイケ・サウンドに埋もれて、不可解で未完成な歌詞が辛うじて聞き取れる程度だったが、ちゃんと修正して、攻撃的でありながら知的なポスト・モダンなプロテスト・ソングを作り上げた。気まぐれな恋愛感情を歌った初期の楽曲から大きな進歩だ。怒りに満ちた「Stop」「Six Barrel Shotgun」「(Kill the) US Government」は、古い世代にとってのMC5の「Kick Out the Jams」のような曲だ。もうジーザス＆ザ・メリーチェインズの焼き直しとは呼ばせない。BRMCは憂鬱（ゆううつ）な歌詞と辛辣な憎悪（実際、これが世界を動かす大きな原動力になっているのだ）を組み合わせて、自らの地位を確保したのだ。(Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com)

基本的には1作目から際立った方向転換も無く、
よりコアに、よりアグレッシブに出来上がった快作。
1stで不穏に放った熱く静かな衝動感はなおも健在である。

まさにNYの地下で煙草の煙の匂うくもりがかったライブハウスで
やってそうな雰囲気の生々しい音を出してくれるBRMC・・。
前作でも見せたゆらゆらと歪む音が特徴でサイケな雰囲気の
｢Stop｣｢In Like the Rose｣などを始めとした曲は
より耳から奥へ入り体にずんと響き、
｢Six Barrel Shotgun｣｢U.S.Goverment｣｢Rise or Fall｣などの
ロック・ナンバーではソリッドで腰にくるグルーヴ、
芯が熱くなるような音を聞かせてくれる。
そして棘と知的さを匂わせる歌詞の言葉・・・。

これをカッコ良いと言わずになんと言うのだろう？
とにかくクールなアルバム。

パンクの意味を理解してるバンドだなぁ
しかもカッコイイし

2000年に入ってアメリカからどんどんいいバンドが出て来るようになり始めた
いったい何故なのかは分からないが
アメリカの中・上流階級の音楽好きが次に求めたのがこういう音だったのだろう。

西海岸の危ない夜はここにある。

リフの鋭さ、スピード感、不良っぽさを備えた
今、一番かっこいいと思えるロックンロールバンド。

重厚なグルーブにからむ、歪んだギター・フレーズは縦横無尽。
それでいて、
冷めたクールネスがスタイリッシュ！

衝動を研ぎ澄まし、鋭利に切り込みつつ
ポピュラリティに背を向ける潔さ！

かっこいいです！
