夜、車の運転中に聴くと徳永さんの甘く切ないハイトーンボイスが心に響きます。『僕のそばに・青い契り・君は君でいたいのに』などはホントに語りかけているようで涙ものです。『輝きながら・・・』も若い頃の一生懸命歌っている感じと違って渋いし、こんな事言ってはなんですが、歌が上手くなってるのがよくわかる１曲です。

20年。作家の側が様々な区切りを経て、随分音楽性を深化させてきた一方、リスナーも大人になり嗜好の幅を広げてきている。そして両者の後ろには過去の素晴らしい曲達が、忘却という時代の宿命の中で、薄光を放ち続けている。この財産達を過去そのままで冷凍保存するのもいいが、時代に左右されないアレンジで未来へ託すことも、案外嬉しいことのような気がする。

何故なら、この20年でさすがに録音の技術も、音楽の探求性も違っている。その新しい服を曲に着させてあげること（byASKA）いまのきもち（by中島みゆき）で歌ってあげることで、新しい可能性をもたせられるからである。特に今回アコースティックなかたちで録音したのは、音に普遍性を持たせるためか。これで未来シーンへの耐震性を確保できたはず。またそのメロウなアレンジは大人になったリスナーにも、琥珀色の味わいでつきあってゆける音に仕上がった。ちなみに今作の徳永の声はまだ鋭利さを保てている。セルフカヴァーを出すならこのタイミングだったかと思う。

勿論、収録曲全て昔から骨太で構造にしっかりした強さがあるので、初めて徳永に触れる世代にも自信をもって紹介できる。特にお勧めなのは「レイニーブルー」の絶品さ。まるでブルーノートで演奏されスタンダードのような最高の熟成さを魅せる。またピアノソロと歌声だけの「青い契り」は徳永の旨みが濃縮されており必聴だ。「君は君でいたいのに」も過去の曲達と肩を並べる深みを持つ。

これらの意味から、未来のシーンへ徳永の音楽を遠投する一枚として、またメロウさと洗練さ加えた作品として、充分耳を楽しませてくれている。病気あけという意味も含め「カガヤキナガラ」とは光と影も抱えながら、何度でも生まれ変わってゆこうとする彼の姿勢をうたう意思を聴く。

　彼のヴォーカル、並びにエコー感はつまりサイケデリックである。スペース空間に響くメロディがなんともやるせない。物憂げなバラード曲が多いのはその空間と響きを重んずるからではなかろうか。その技を自ずと体得してしまったプロである。

　ところがこのアルバムでは彼の代表曲がまた違ったアレンジでセルフカバー。オーガニックな生演奏を中心に沿えたもので、メロディの引き立て方を新たに探っているようだ。それは時にノラ・ジョーンズを思わせる心地よさがある。
