１９９８年９月にリリースされたさだまさしソロ通算２５枚目のオリジナル・アルバムです。本作は原盤のアルバム・ジャケットに「あの、さだまさしが帰ってきた！」と書かれ、別に同タイトルで書き下ろしエッセイを収めた本まで出したという、まさしが久々に大勝負を賭けたと思える物凄く気合の入ったアルバムです。それから歌詞パンフレットのライナーノーツがヴィジュアル的にも非常に素晴らしい出来で、私的にはここ最近でも最高の部類に入ると思います。作品の内容としてはあまりにも深く難しく先鋭的に過ぎたのでしょうか、さだがこのアルバムの曲を現在ステージであまり歌っていないのは残念です。でも、さだが敢て困難な道を選び新たな領域に挑戦したアルバムとして長くファンの記憶に残る作品といえるでしょう。『心の時代』「こころ」を挫く現代社会の中で自分をあきらめてはいけないと魂の叫びを歌うロック調の応援歌です。『クリスマス・ローズ』過去はそこから明日を学ぶ為にあるというテーマのアコースティックな美しい曲です。『驟雨』切なさに押し潰されそうな絶望感を感じさせる悲痛な曲です。『君が選んだひと』別の男と結ばれた昔の恋人の幸せを祈る切ないシチュエーションのさだにしか書けない恋愛歌です。『秘密』秘密の初恋に伴う後ろめたさと大人への成長を歌う悲しく重い一曲です。『神の恵み』二度と戦わないという強い意志を子供達に伝えてゆこうと永遠の平和を願う歌です。『不器用な花』不器用に一所懸命頑張る人を励ます童歌風の応援歌です。『こころとからだ』幻想的なメロディーに乗せて不思議な心の動きを歌います。『都府楼』福岡・大宰府の「秋思祭」をテーマとする激しく幽玄な恋唄です。『白夜の黄昏の光』写真家・星野道夫氏の人生をアラスカの大自然を舞台にダイナミックに歌う鎮魂歌です。本作はさだまさしが歪んだ現代社会に打ち勝つ元気と勇気を与えてくれる感動の名盤だと思います。

それぞれの楽曲に力があり、覚悟無くして聴けないさだまさしらしいアルバムで大好きです。
「神の恵み~A Day of Providence」で歌われる内容は重いですが、アメリカとにっぽんの関係を考えさせられます。
「白夜の黄昏の光」メロディラインの美しさ☆☆☆☆☆です！

さだまさしが煙草を止めた年の作品（関係ないか）。
前作「夢歌」がシングル向け楽曲の寄せ集めのような
印象が強かった分、アルバムとしての完成度が高い気がします。
軽快な「心の時代」に始まり、「極光」を思わせるバラード
「白夜の黄昏の光」まで佳曲がいいバランスで散りばめられています。
とりわけ光るのが「秘密」。
青春時代の不安やときめきを見事なリズム感覚で表現。
初めて聞いたときにサビの部分のリズムを取れる人は
そうそういないのでは？
言葉の魔術師としてだけでなく、音楽家としてのさだまさしの
力量を感じさせられます。
ストレートに反戦を歌う「神の恵み」も彼のキャリアにおいて
重要な作品ですね。
