懐かしいアニメの主題歌やBGMを、1200円（税抜）という魅力的なプライスに詰め込んだ「ANIMEX1200」シリーズ。本盤は、1978年にテレビシリーズを再編集した形で公開された劇場用アニメ『科学忍者隊ガッチャマン』のオリジナル・サウンドトラックで、1978年にリリースされたもののリマスタリング版だ。
TVシリーズでサントラを担当したのはボブ佐久間だったが、放送終了後4年を経て公開された劇場版ではすぎやまこういちにバトンタッチし、新曲が書き下ろされた。メインとなるのはNHK交響楽団による壮大なオーケストラサウンドだが、フュージョン系の楽曲もあり楽しめる。TV版の主題歌「ガッチャマンの歌」は新アレンジのインストで収録している。（剛吉若寸也）
