皆さん言及されているとおり、シルビアンのソロの中でも屈指の名作だと思います。この盤を名作たらしめているのは、JAPAN後期からのエンジニア、スティーブ・ナイの貢献が大きいのでは。まあ、全曲聴き所はありますが、ヒットシングルの「レッド・ギター」の坂本龍一のピアノのアンビエンスがエンディングに向かって広がっていく処理など、気がついた時には鳥肌がたちました。80年代のロックエンジニアリングは現代の耳では苦笑というものも少なくありませんが、これはまさに今聴くべき音ではないかと思います。

ソロデビューアルバム。シルヴィアンはその後活動の幅を広げていき
ますが、自分にとってはこのアルバムこそがベスト。うれしいことに
長年待っていたリマスター版がリリースされました。日本盤をはじめ
としてCCCDでのリリースになっていますので、気をつけたいところ。

長年、ブリリアント…は音質の面でかなり不満があったので今回のリ

マスターは本当にうれしい。一番好きなアルバムなだけに。

坂本龍一氏の参加もこのアルバムの重要な骨子になっていると思う。
それからポップな面だけでなく、彼のアンビエント志向が一番素晴ら
しい形で萌芽したタイトル曲の「ブリリアント・トゥリーズ」。
瞑想的。

シルヴィアンで何を聴いたらいいか分からない人には、このソロデ

ビュー盤と、現時点での最新アルバム「Blemish」をお薦めします。
ここ数年、もう活動も落ち着いてきて、あまり期待していなかった
んですが、最新アルバムではシルヴィアンもまだまだやれる！とい
うことがわかって、うれしくなってしまいました。

ヴァージンレーベル物の”ジャパン””デヴィ・シル”のアルバム再発にあたり、それぞれボーナストラックを収録していますが、このアルバムの曲にも違うヴァージョンの曲（７インチ、１２インチシングル・レコード収録の物）が存在するのに、今回納められてないのは、とても残念です。
（１）Pulling Punches：のシングル・エディット・ヴァージョン。

（２）Red Guitar：のフルレンジ・ヴァージョン。

（３）Weathered Wall：のインストルメンタル・ヴァージョン。

（４）Brilliant Trees：２０００年ヴァージョン。
欲を言えば、きりがないですが、次回の再発時にお願いしたいものです。
