まず目を奪われる。
そして今度は面子に目を奪われる。
ハービーにフレディ、ロンにコブハム！
ＣＴＩお得意の、さりげなく凄いメンバー、というやつだ。
しかしここでは例のオケアレンジがくっついているものの、コンボ演奏が主体でメンバーのプレイお目当ての人もなかなか楽しめる。

選曲もルグランの曲など、あまり有名でない曲も含めて良い曲が並んでいて魅力的だ。
総じてミルトのあまり小回りが利かないが貫禄のある渋さと、小回りが異様に利く若武者の鋭さのそれぞれ良い部分をＣＴＩサウンドで適度に
薄くブレンドした、なかなかバランスの良い佳作と言えると思う。
結構何回も聴きたくなる。

何か良いところがあるはずと思い、
9月以来何度も聞き返しましたが、
やっぱりだめです。
ウィズストリングス物ですからねえ…
スイングしろと言っても無理なんですけど、
ここまで作り物のサウンドでは、
正統ジャズな人間には全く相容れるモノがありません…

こういう音楽と思うしかないんでしょうね…
とすると、音楽自体の魅力の問題ですが、
正直、別に…という感じ。
きついこと言えばＴＫの方がましでしょうか。

ミルトジャクソンは何を考えていたんだろう…
時代のあだ花、ってやつなんですかねえ。
作られたバイヴ音楽をお望みなら
クリスタル・サイレンス
の方が素直ですね。

安いだけ、ジャケのみだけではやっぱりだめですねえ…

Hハンコック、Fハバード、Rカーターなどの新主流派の上に、Mジャクソンが乗っかった企画アルバム。Mジャクソンの奏でる古いタイプのフレーズが、バックとややあっていない感じもしますが、イージーリスニング的なストリングと合わさって、意外と面白いサウンドに出来上がっていると思います。フュージョンでのBコブハムのドラムは、やたら手数が多いだけであまり好きなタイプではないのですが、今回は抑制された中々いい仕事をしています。
