中学生の頃、映画館でロッキー Wを観ました。劇中、ドラゴとのエキシビジョン・マッチで悲劇的最期を遂げたアポロの死後、敵地ロシアでのリベンジ・マッチを決心したが、エイドリアンに猛烈に反対され、家を飛び出して自らのスポーツ・カーを駆って街を疾走しながら、過去の思い出を回想するシーンで流れた、#7 No Easy Way Outと、ロッキーが孤独なトレーニングをしていたロシアに、それまで試合に反対していたエイドリアンが追い掛けて来てからの熱の入った野性的トレーニングを展開する際に流れる、#2 Heart's on Fire、が耳に残って離れず、生まれて初めて買ったCDです。名曲と有名なサバイバーの二曲と並んで、両者とも現在、最新の「ロッキー・ザ・ファイナル」サウンドトラックと謳うベスト盤で聴けますが、その他の曲も秀逸です。特に圧巻はインストゥルメンタルの二曲、このアルバムではご存知、「ビル・コンティ」に代わって「ヴィンス・ディコーラ」が音楽監督を務めましたが、今までのインストとは全く印象の違う、近代的シンセサイザーの音色の素晴らしい楽曲で、劇中シーンにもピッタリです。因みにこの二曲は前述のベスト盤では聴けません!それまで洋楽に興味がなかった私ですが、その後、スタローン関係やトップガンのサントラ等を経て逆に洋楽にハマり、その後の私の音楽嗜好は完全に変わりました。80年代は本当に良質なサントラが多かったですが私の中ではベストサントラです。

ヴィンス・ディコーラの「WAR」と「TRAINING MONTAGE」は最高です。インストゥルメンタルで歌詞は一切ありませんが、非常にドラマチックで盛り上がりのある曲で、聞いているうちに体の底からやる気が燃え上がってきます！ロッキーファンはもちろん、ロッキーシリーズを見たことがない方も一度聞いてみることをお勧めします。試験日の朝や、これから大事な試合というまえに聞くと効果が出そうです。
「ロッキー３」のメインテーマで、「ロッキー４」ではオープニングで少しだけ使われた「EYE OF THE TIGER」もしっかり収録されているという点も嬉しいポイントです。

個人的には３曲目のDouble Or Nothingがすごく気に入ってます。
サントラ王（当時）のケニー・ロギンスとグラディス・ナイトという
異色の組み合わせもさることながら、
一聴して、これはシングルカットされて大ヒットするのでは！？
と思えたほどすーっと入ってくる美しいポップソングなのですが、
予想に反してシングルカットされませんでした。

２曲目のHearts On Fireの間奏から後半への盛り上がり、
疾走感もめちゃめちゃ好きです。１６分（ぶ）でピコピコ入ってくる
シーケンスパターンがとっても気持ちよいです。
