1930年代にリリースされたアメリカ100選にもなっている「OVER THE RAINBOW」は確かに「オズの魔法使い」でJudy Garlandが歌い大ヒットしました。しかし、その後多くのアーティストによって弾かれ、歌われました。でも時代を超えて歌い伝えられていくうちに、誰の歌い方が一番貴方にあっているか？比較するのも楽しいですよ。人によってはこの曲がハワイアンではないかと思っているひともいるくらいで、ジャンルを超えて幅広く歌われている。是非、貴方のOver The Rainbowを探してください。

このＣＤは、映画『オズの魔法使い』の主題歌の「オーバー・ザ・レインボウ」の12人の様々な演奏を集めたものです。『虹の彼方に』好きにはたまらない１枚となっています。

映画撮影当時１６歳の主演のジュディ・ガーランドが、「虹の向こうのどこかに青い鳥が飛んでいる」と希望を歌い上げた名曲です。この「オーバー・ザ・レインボウ」は、全米レコード協会や全米芸術基金などによって二十世紀を代表する最高の米国の歌（第１位）として選ばれました。

ＣＤに収録されているのは、どれも有名なジャズミュージシャンの演奏ばかりですから、一曲一曲演奏者の個性が出ており、聴き比べをするのには最適のＣＤです。
「ケニー・ドリュー」、「チェット・ベイカー」、「グレン・ミラー」、「バド・パウエル」、どれをとっても名演奏です。

いくら名曲だからといって、普通同じ曲12回聴くと飽きてくる筈ですが、一流奏者の演奏ばかりですから、かえってその違いに惹かれました。
寝る前に気分を落着かせるのには、このＣＤはオススメです。

どの演奏を聴いても感じるのですが、「オーバー・ザ・レインボウ」って、空の彼方を見上げて、夢の世界に浸ってしまうような懐かしさを持った曲ですね。
いつの時代にも、このような音楽は歌い継がれてほしいものです。

「青い鳥」を探し続けて、ジュディ・ガーランドは、生涯で５人の伴侶をえました。そして薬物中毒のすえ、波乱万丈の生涯を４７才で終えたのです。
映画と現実の関係に驚いています。
