不変、頑固な男につける薬は、たとえ良薬だろうが秘薬であろうが、ないのだと知るわけである。無骨といえばこんなに硬派で道を踏み外さずに歌い続けている人もめずらしい。しかも2~3年に1作ずつ、90年代以降もアルバムをきっちり発表している。安定した創造力は、視線をそらさぬ姿勢、腰の下がり方の確かさにある。これが76年の録音だといわれても違和感がないほど古風な響きで貫かれている。それもこれもジヴォンのまっすぐな歌ゆえ。ゲストは有名人ばかりだがいずれも脇役。ライ・クーダーのスライドが静かにしっとりたゆたう「天国への扉」はジヴォンの現在の肉体的状況を思うとたまらないものがあるのだが、それとても人生のほんの一コマにすぎぬとあっさり告げる歌の力。それに続く(4)が遠藤賢司の「不滅の男」にそっくりなのはただ事ではない。(9)のじっとりにじんだ煙草のヤニのような愛情表現には言葉もない。これが遺作になりませんように。 (湯浅学) --- 2003年09月号

ウォーレン・ジヴォン、恥ずかしながらグラミー賞まで聴いたことなかったんですが・・・おかげで全く先入観なしに聴けました。感傷的にさせられるような背景をもつアルバムですが、そういった事情を考慮せず聴いても、純粋に非常にすぐれたロック・アルバムと思います。第46回グラミー賞（2004年2月 9日）にFolk部門の "Best Contemporary Folk Album" を、また "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal" を "Disorder In The House" でスプリングスティーンと共に受賞しています。そのほかもともとアルバム・タイトルになっていた "My Dirty Life And Times" や "Keep Me In Your Heart" がお気に入りです。ちなみに、「VH1 カバレッジ・オブ・レコーディング・セッション」のタイトルでアルバム製作のドキュメンタリーがDVDで出ています。

　ウォーレン・ジヴォン・・・・何となく玄人好みの渋い音楽というイメージで聴かず嫌いをしていて、恥ずかしながら亡くなった後のグラミー賞でジャクソン・ブラウン達が歌うまで聴いたことがありませんでした。
　おかげで殆ど先入観なしに聴けました。死期を悟った中で作られたという感傷的にさせられるような背景をもつアルバムですが、そういった事情を考慮せず聴いても純粋に非常にすぐれたロック・アルバムと思います。奇を衒ったりすることのない自然で素直なメロディの曲ばかりで耳に馴染みやすいです。
　結局、このアルバムは第46回グラミー賞（2004年2月 9日）にFolk部門の "Best Contemporary Folk Album" を受賞し、更に"Disorder In The House" で "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal" をB.スプリングスティーンと共に受賞しています。ほか、もともとアルバム・タイトルになる予定たったという "My Dirty Life And Times" や "Keep Me In Your Heart" がいいですね。
　ちなみに、「VH1 カバレッジ・オブ・レコーディング・セッション」のタイトルでアルバム製作のドキュメンタリーがDVDで出ています。
