ヴァン・モリソンにとって有名ジャズレーベル、ブルーノートへの移籍第1弾となるアルバム。ブルーノートにはかつて、アート・ブレイキー、セロニアス・モンク、マイルス・デイヴィスをはじめとするジャズ史上もっとも称賛されたアーティストたちが集まっていた。もちろん、自らも伝説のアーティストにほかならないモリソンは、この名高いレーベルに在籍するに足る才能の持ち主である。
だが残念ながら、ジャズとブルースの歴史をたどってモリソンが選曲したここ最近の作品には、もどかしいくらいに模範生的で気持ちをなえさせてしまう何かがあり、それが作品の質を落としていた。だが本作には、感動を与えてくれたかつてのモリソンの姿がある。「Somerset」（メロディーとクラリネットに合わせてモリソンが詞をつけている）では、「木陰でりんご酒をすする」と歌いながら詩人の魂をさまよわせ、（ジョニー・スコットがマンドリンを鳴らす）地中海風の「Little Village」と、管楽器をそっと響かせながら月夜の散歩を歌う「Evening in June」の2曲では、さわやかな外気とのどかな満足感を楽しんでいる。
逆に、（タイトル曲のように）この年老いた偏屈な巨匠が人前でまくしたてるのを聴けることはめったにないにもかかわらず、名声は苦痛だと決めつけた「Goldfish Bowl」「Fame」といったトラックはがさつさを漂わせている。しかし、ライトニン・ホプキンスのロカビリー曲「Stop Drinking」は、思わず足を踏み鳴らしたくでもなるようなうれしい気晴らしとなっている。本作は、ヴァン・モリソンにとって決して出来の悪いアルバムではない。けれども、全力を出し尽くしているとは思えない、とただし書きを付けておくべきアルバムだ。（Kevin Maidment, Amazon.co.uk）
