ここ何年かのベタベタに暑苦しいオーケストラ作品は、どれものどにつかえて聴いていて疲れる上に、オリジナルアルバムもサントラもすべて同じ曲調なので、結局どのアルバムも数回聴いたら棚へ直行で以後聴かれることはなくなってしまう。
しかしこのアルバムは、ピアノとそれ以外の楽器のバランスもよく、アルバム全体の構成も練られており聴きやすく、メロディも押し付けがましくなく、聴きこむも良し、さらりと流しておくも良し、発売以降何回聴いたかしれない気持ちの良い好アルバム。
この頃にはきっとやってやろう！という意気込みと自信があったのだろう、今は自分の音に自信がなくなったのか、べったり隙間無く音を塗りこめた音だったり、メロディを朗々と謡うこともなくやたらと展開をするがちゃがちゃした音作りだが、このアルバムはシンプルに徹した音作りがとても良く、伸びやかに謡うメロディも気持ちよい。
復刻がＣＣＣＤなのはメーカーの性格上仕方が無いが、最近のＣＣＣＤ廃止の方向を受けて通常ＣＤで再発売をするメーカーもあるぐらいだから、いつの日か通常のＣＤで再発売されて、より多くの人がこのＣＤを手に取ろうと思ってくれることを望む。

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Joe Hisaishi of the all!, 2005/10/30
I've been a fan of Hisaishi Joe's music for many years, and I have listened to his entire musical catologue. This was his first real foray into the world of classical chamber music as far as his solo career goes, and what a debut it is!

The song structures are amazingly complex, yet always pleasing to the ear, and the harmonies and melodies carry that unmistakable Hisaishi trademark. Songs like 'Venus' and 'Modern Strings' demonstrate a wide versatility in Hisaishi's songwriting style, with their erratic rhythms, complex melodies and admirably subtle counter-melodies, there is a real sense of adventure in the atmospheres conjured. Elsewhere there are plenty of contrasting pieces to relax to, such as the perfect, lathargic flow of sound found in 'Deer's Wind', or the hypnotic stillness of 'On the Sunny Shore'.

Although the album could be categorised as a classical instrumental album like 'Piano Stories 2, 3 & 4', or 'My Lost City', there is a certain pop sensability to the album and there are hints of popular percussion and world instruments found here and there (i.e. Drum kits in 'Modern Strings', and Tabla in 'Echoes').

This is by far my favourite Hisaishi album, and I recommend anyone who is considering to start a Hisaishi album collection to start here. Excellent, beautiful, enchanting.

在庫僅少で入手しづらかった作品がＣＣＣＤで復活。
入手しづらかったせいかどうか知らないがファンの間では持っていることが自慢される節のあった作品なので、割とイイ作品かも。
それでもＣＣＣＤじゃ動作不良が心配だなあ。
