イーノの環境音楽シリーズの礎ともなった「Music For Films」の続編です。「II」を飛ばしての「III」ですが、実は「II」はそれまでの全アルバムをセットしたボックス用に作られています（1983年）。
「I」がイーノ自身による映像音楽集（極めて短い作品を集めたもの）であるのに対して、「III」はEG Records、Opalといったレーベルでお馴染みの、いわばイーノ・ファミリーで制作されたオムニバス盤です。ダニエル・ラノワ、ハロルド・バッド、ララージ、ロジャー・イーノといった参加者の面々に心躍らせる方も少なくないのではないでしょうか。更に、レッド・ゼペリンのジョン・ポール・ジョーンズがクレヂットされているとなれば、お得感も一塩でしょう。

さて、肝心の音楽ですが、実際に様々な映画等で用いられたものということです。聴いた印象では、ドキュメンタリ・フィルムのバック音楽という感じです。つまり、映像やストーリを邪魔してはならず、ロマンティック過ぎてドキュメンタリ性を失わせてもならない。そういった、極めて禁欲的な音楽です。しかしながら、前記のような、一癖もふた癖もあるそうそ!うたる面々が制作しているのですから、「フツー」である訳もない。イーノ・ファミリーを包括的に概観したい方におすすめです。
