   『Blemish』は元ジャパンのフロントマン、デヴィッド・シルヴィアンにとって1999年の『Dead Bees on a Cake』以来となる待望のニュー・アルバムだ。前作は夫人のイングリッド・シャヴェイズに捧げられた愛の賛歌というべき一面をもっていただけに、華麗で幸福感あふれるジャズ／アンビエント的なトーンに包まれていた。だが本アルバムはがらりと一転、苦悩に満ちた内容となっており、時には憎しみすら感じさせる。親しみやすいとはいえないが、聴きごたえは前作に勝るとも劣らない。たとえばオープニングを飾るタイトル・トラック。長大で苦渋をにじませた大曲で、愛する人との破局が語られる中、ギター・コードが揺らめき、時おり暴力的な響きによって中断される。

   インプロヴィゼーションを得意とするイギリスのヴェテラン・ギタリスト、デレク・ベイリーとの大胆なコラボレーションが3曲ある。ベイリーによる俳句にも似たムダのない無調のトーンは、心地よさを求めてシルヴィアンを聴こうとする人に試練を強いるだろう。また、「The Only Daughter」のCDをスキップさせるかのようなスクラッチっぽいイフェクトもリスナーを困惑させそうだ。一方、「Late Night Shopping」はアヴァンギャルドなノイズを散りばめた耳障りなサウンドで不安をあおろうとする。だが本作は勇気あるアルバムだ。前作とは正反対の美しさをもった作品として評価したい。（David Stubbs, Amazon.co.uk）



Album Details

2003 solo album from David Sylvian, his first since 1999's 'Dead Bees on a Cake'. It's the debut release for his Samadhi Sound label. David set aside a month to write & record the album while taking a break from the project that he & his brother, Steve Jansen, are working on. He has created an impromptu suite of songs for guitar, electronics & voice. The compositions were crafted from improvisational sessions captured live in the studio. Working almost entirely alone David has created an emotionally raw, minimalist work, of immediacy & stark beauty. Adding to the intensity & air of experimentation is the presence of Derek Bailey. Three of the pieces included on 'Blemish' were written with, & feature, the legendary free-jazz guitarist. The final track of the CD features a haunting electronic arrangement by Christian Fennesz. まず最初にデヴィッドの歌声が迫ってきます。
いつもとは違い、バックのサウンドよりも歌声が前面に押し出された
MIXで、まるで耳元で唄われているかのような印象。
ラストの1曲だけは他人のアレンジで、かなりエレクトリックなポップ
作品ですが、それ以外はほとんどを彼1人で作ったなんともアンビエン
トな作品群でありながら、楽曲の骨格はしっかりしており、聴けは聴く
ほど味が出る、イイアルバムです。

Derek Baileyの即興ギターとSylvianのヴォーカル
こちらは馴染むまでには少し時間がかかりました．

Christian FenneszとSylvianのヴォーカルは一曲だけです．
これはすんなり聴けて歌詞が
There is always sunshine
above the grey sky
I will try to find it
yes I will try
と始まります．前作よりもPositiveでStableな印象を受けました．
かといって押し出がましいわけでもなく，

よく言われる「タルコフスキーのような」という印象も以前のまま．
前作（DeadBeesOnACake）よりも（SecretsOfBeehive）に
音の感触は近いと感じました．

本当にやりたいことを突き詰めたらこうなったと
聴いてて感じられます．

このCDとも長い付き合いになりそうです．

このアルバムを理解するためにまず必要な事柄は、当時の妻=イングリットとの破局という極私的な事実だ。
二人の子供まで授かり、幸せに満ちた家庭を築いたのは『デッド　ビーズ　オン　ア　ケイク』の頃。
時は流れ、幸せな時間は幻の様に失せ、もはや二人の心は寄り添う事も無く、互いにただ傷つけ合うだけ。

彼女の世界から抹消された彼は、記憶の染み（=Blemish)となる。

I fall outside of her（彼女の事が理解出来ない）
　She doesnt notice（彼女は気がつかない）
=『ブレミッシュ』

長引く離婚訴訟に心は疲弊し、立ち塞がる弁護士のせいで、愛する娘達と合う事もままならない。
=『オンリー　ドーター』

家族を失い、一人寂しくカートを引きずる深夜の買い物。
=『レイト　ナイト　ショッピング』

もっと時を重ねれば、自分はより良く成熟して行き、もっと人生をうまく扱える様になるはずだと、
若い頃は愚かにも確信していた。
しかし、それが単なる誤解でしか無かった事を認めざるを得ないのは、とても苦痛な事だ。

長い凪（なぎ）を乗り越え、遂に到達する諦念。
それは遠く暗い森にまたたく炎。
=『ファイヤー　イン　ザ　フォレスト』

このアルバムの内容は、非常に個人的であり、典型的な『昇華』の過程を作品にしている。
だが、それは本人が思っている以上に、かなり普遍的な事柄でもあるのだ。
デイヴィッドは、音楽的にも、人間としても、成長しようと常に努力している。
より良き自分を諦めない大人のための音楽、だと思う。
聴く人は心して聴くべき、です。
