長年連れ添った棚谷祐一と鳥羽修が脱退し、直枝政広、大田譲、矢部浩志のトリオとなった新生カーネーションの第1作である。情報を整理すると、音楽性の相違などということよりも、カーネーションというグループをすべての中心に据えてやっていけるかどうか? という、結成20周年を迎えたメンバーそれぞれの冷静な決断によるもののようで、実際の音にも、欠落感はあまり感じられない。それどころか、リズム隊の存在が強調されたことによって音の骨格がさらに太くなり、よりアグレッシヴであらくれたロック色の濃い、生々しいサウンドが鳴っている。なんでも直枝政広は、グループがトリオになる際にまずマーシャルのアンプとギブソンのセミアコを買ったそうで、その太さと勢いがそのまま出た、しかし直枝政広らしいデリケートな歌詞と芳醇なメロディの世界は健在という、素晴らしい出来である。とくにヴォーカルが良くて、艶があってエッジが立って厳しくて優しい。この声だけでも買う価値がある。 (宮本英夫) --- 2003年09月号
