筒井康隆の同名小説を、菅原文太主演で映画化したハートウォーミングドラマ。中学一年生の珠子の祖父・激F三が刑務所から出所してきた。それ以来、珠子の生活は充実したものへ変わっていくが、正義感の強い謙三は多くのヤクザたちとの因縁を抱えていた。

主人公の「石原さとみ」の名前に惹かれて観た映画ですが、予想以上に面白かった。菅原文太演じるグランパの町の人々や不良とのかかわりが、どこかに忘れていた昔かたぎの頑固おやじのようでノスタルジックでもあったし、グランパの無骨で真っ直ぐな生き方に、周囲の人達が惹かれ変っていく様が凄く自然ですごく魅力的だった。主人公の石原さとみはグランパとのふれあいを通して大人になっていく様子を肩に力をいれず、自然と演じていて凄く良かった。また、彼女の存在が映画全体の柔らかい、優しい雰囲気にしている。
ただ、後半のやくざの疋田組との話が今ひとつ中途半端な感もあり残念（ちょっと余分な感じでもあり、説得力にもかけた）。でも、石原、菅原の魅力が十二分に発揮され、家族で観ても楽しめる、家族で観たい作品になっていると思う（昔の女性映画を撮っていた東監督作品より力をいれず、ゆったり観れる作品）。
音楽も最高。Alphaの「Somewhere Not Here」はグランパとの出会いと別れにより少女が大人に成長した様子を表しているようでもあり、印象的な曲だった。

　筒井康隆の原作を数年前に読んでいたもんで、いつかは観たいと思いながら買いそびれていたのです。全体に言えることだけど邦画のＤＶＤと言うのはちょっと値がはるでしょう？それでも最近の連ドラ「てるてる家族」で石原さとみの冬ちゃん役を観て、なかなか良い芝居をする子だなと思い、菅原文太との共演がどんなもんか観たくて買いました。

　筒井康隆の小説も良かったけど、映画も楽しく観られました。大抵、小説を先に読むと自分の中で勝手なイメージが出来上がってしまっていて映像になった時は違和感を感じることが多いのだけど、これは配役、演出ともにピッタリだったと思います。

主演の石原さとみがとても初々しくて良い演技を見せています。私は浅野忠信さんの大ファンだったので彼が見られればいいや・・・としか考えておりませんでしたが違ってました。菅原文太さんの良いおじいちゃんぶり、石原さとみの笑顔と涙に心揺さぶられ思わず涙が出ました。邦画はつまらないなんて誰が言ったの？心にジ~ンとくる訳は自分の父親を思い出すからでしょうか？
