画期的なアメリカ録音アルバム。西海岸の一流ミュージシャンをバックに風船がオリジナルを歌う。後半は現地でのコンサートのライヴ録音。後期の代表作「えんだん」収録。

   はっぴいえんどよりも以前にフォーク系ではいち早く海外録音を敢行したのは風船だった。本作はそのアメリカ録音を含めた渡米の記録盤的な内容。当時スタジオ録音を抜き出し1枚物に編集した『IN U.S.A.』というアルバムもビクターからリリースされている。風船の代表曲を現地のスタジオ・ミュージシャンが演奏し、メンバーはヴォーカルのみを録音したスタジオ録音とライヴ、メンバーによる渡米中の思い出話で構成されているが、演奏は端正なものでアメリカ録音うんぬんよりも別アレンジによる風船を楽しみたいという聴き方をおすすめする。（田口史人）

3.0 out of 5 stars レコードの風船はどうもな~, 2004/1/20
とても懐かしくて購入。しかし、純然と楽曲だけにして欲しかった。アメリカ公演の話が演奏にかぶっているので、うっとおしい。演奏はこれまでの風船のレコード（あえてレコード：昔購入したので）と同じで今ひとつ。実際のコンサートの方が数段良いのはなぜだろう？ちなみに収録されているアメリカ公演の時のお話は当時のコンサートと同じであるのが妙に懐かしい。

ディスク１は五つの赤い風船のキャッチーな曲をいろんなアレンジで
収録したようなアルバムで、ロックよりのアレンジが多い。
ディスク２は西岡たかしの家にほかのメンバーが遊びに来て
座談会をしつつアメリカでのライブ音源をかけていくというような形式。
この座談会もなかなか面白い。赤い風船がアメリカで
ライブをした時の話等が聞ける。
