天才メロディ・メイカー、ゲイリー・ヒューズ（TEN）のペンによるロック・オペラ作の前半部となるのが本作。

コンセプトは「アーサー王物語」に基づいているが、難解な部分は皆無。
また、「オペラ」と聞いて想像するほど壮大なわけではなく、優れたメロディが優れたシンガーによって歌われる非常に心地よい作品に仕上がっている。

ラナ・レーン（LANA　LANE）を始め、ボブ・カトレイ（MAGNUM、BOB　CATLEY）やダミアン・ウィルソン（THRESHOLD）などの実力派ゲスト・シンガーが、非常に良い仕事をしており、作品全体に彩りを添えている。

お気に入りは、ゲイリーの書いてきた曲の中ではかなりメタル度の高い楽曲＃１“Excalibur”と、ラナの叙情歌唱が冴え渡る＃３“At　The　End　Of　Day”。

TENのファンは勿論のこと、メロディ派リスナーは買っても損はないクオリティだと思う。

TENのVoにしてソングライターである、ゲイリー・ヒューズのソロ作。2003作
アーサー王伝説をモチーフにしたロックオペラの第一弾。
先に「II」の方を聴いていたが、遅ればせながら1作目を購入。
TENのメンバーを演奏陣に据え、アルイエン・ルカッセン、
そして配役ごとにゲストVoを多数迎えた豪華な作品。
基本はTENでもやっている叙情味溢れるメロディアスなハードロックであるが
シンフォニックなバラードや時折ケルト風のメロディを用いるなど、
「アーサー王」のコンセプトをサウンドの雰囲気にもかもし出している。
ラナ・レーンやイレーネ・ヤンセン(AFTER FOREVER)といった女性Vo陣が華を添え、
ボブ・カトレイの落ち着いた声の存在感や、ゲイリーのマイルドな歌唱を引き立てている。

英国の叙情派HRバンドTENのゲイリー・ヒューズ<Vo>によるコンセプト・アルバム。

アーサー王伝説に基づいたストーリーが、ラナ・レーン、ダニー・ヴォーン<ex-TYKETTO>、ボブ・カトレイ<MAGUNUM>、ショーン・ハリス<DIAMOND HEAD>ら多数のゲスト・シンガーによって展開されるロック・オペラ・アルバムだ。但し、“オペラ”といっても小難しいものではなく、音楽性はTEN同様のキャッチーなメロディを持つ哀愁路線のメロディアス・ハード・ロックである。

個人的には、ゲイリーによるここ数作のTENでのメロディにはイマイチ乗り切れないものを感じており、あまり期待してはいなかった。しかし、本作はTENの近年の不振を振り払う見事なメロディに満ち満ちている。とりわけ、壮大なイントロに導かれるメタル・チューン1（リフがRUNNING WILDを思わせる）、ゲイリーとラナ・レーンのデュエットによる感動のバラード3、キャッチーでドラマティックな7は傑作だ。

尚、このストーリー・アルバムは2部構成になっており、この9月にはパート2がリリースの予定。こちらにも期待が膨らむ。
