いわゆる「雑誌先行広告デビュー」の先駆け存在
（当時の資料を基にすると、そうらしいが）
出身地の札幌で、10代の頃に自分の名刺を持ち歩き、
その時に使っていた偽名（と、いうか遊び名）の
「中原理枝」が、一文字変わってそのまま芸名になった・・・
と、言うことになっている中原理恵のソニー所属時のベストである。
大ヒット曲は、いわゆる「東京ららばい」と
「ディスコレディー」くらいだが、
途中、萩本欽一の番組に出ていたあたり発表した、
「死ぬほど逢いたい」や「愛してクレイジー」も、
売り上げはやや動きが鈍るが、
いい動きは見せていた。
歌自体は、非常に良い音程で、
歌手としては、ヒットしたしないにかかわらず、
いい仕事をしていると思う。
こうして1枚のCDとして通して聴いてみると、
非常に多種多彩な歌の種類を、
きちんと理解してこなしているし、
今、聞いてみても、80年代の大人の「半AOR」と「半ムードソング」の
中間のような位置を、きっちりポジションとして、
押さえた感じである。
ただ、スタッフの意向だと思うが、
ジャンルがあまりにも飛びすぎで、
シングル間の統一性がやや乏しい。
これは、本人がどんな歌があっていて、
なおかつ何がヒットするかという、
試行錯誤の表れの典型だと思うが、
もう少し、ひとつのジャンルの歌にしぼっても
良かったのではないかと思う。
個人的には、カリプソ・ソカのような、
もっと元気な歌を、この声で聴いてみたかった気も。

　ほんとに売れたのはデビュー曲の「東京ららばい」くらいのものだけど、彼女の曲はその結構な部分を筒美京平-松本隆ゴールデンコンビが手がけていて、それはつまり、もうひとりの太田裕美ってくらいの比重がこのコンビにとってあったんではないか。脚本家が「この女優で台本を書きたい」って思うように、松本隆は中原理恵で詞を書きたかったのかもしれない。中原理恵は北海道の出身なんだけど、そうした彼女の来歴を元にイメージした「寒い国から来た女」なんて曲もある。
　中原理恵の世界は「地方から東京に出てきた女のリアル」だ。まあ、昼はキャリアガール、夜はディスコレディ、つっぱって生きてるけど、ほんとはたまらなく寂しい...ってな女性像。今風に、太田裕美が「かわいい系」だとしたら、中原理恵は「カッコいい系」である。
　シングルの中では「懐しのジョージ・タウン」が印象深い。♪路の占いに聞けば天中殺さ　どこまで不幸になるか見たい気もする　というまさに、つっぱって生きる女的80年代をこの歌詞に聞くことが出来る。
　表題のジョージ・タウンは吉祥寺のことなんだけど、ジョージなんて呼び方、当時誰もしてなかった。そう言えば、長野出身の女友達が当時、自由が丘を得意げに「オカジュー」と呼んでいたのを思い出す。理想としては麻布、青山あたりに住んでみたいけど、渋谷にも新宿にも電車で一本の吉祥寺あたりで手を打っとこう、ってあたりのロケーション選びがリアル。中央線沿線は地方出身者にはなぜか安らぐみたい。それにしても中原理恵、最近見ないなあ。

中原理恵、渡辺真知子、大橋順子、八神純子…７０年代の後半に素晴らしいヒット曲がありました。中原理恵の「東京ららばい」のリズムもいいですね。当時の個性的な彼女のヘアーも流行りましたね。欽ちゃんの番組にもでてたっけ？
渡辺真知子、大橋順子、八神純子は多数のヒット曲がありますが、中原理恵といえば…「東京ららばい」しか思い出せないです。ごめんなさい。でもなつかしの７０年代後半を象徴する１曲です。
