ヤン・ハマーはチェコ出身の天才ピアニストで、学生時代の１９６６年、ウイーン国際音楽コンクールにベースのミロスラフ・ヴィトウス（後に初代ウェザー・リポート）を含むトリオで優勝し、渡米します。この人の鍵盤タッチの特徴は、独特の陰影のある印象的なフレーズを次々と即興で繰り出すところにあり、その余りの美しさはそのまま、テーマとして使えるほど、正に元祖チック・コリア、キース・ジャレット的存在、天才的なメロディメーカーと呼べる人でした。フェンダーローズ等の電子楽器を繰ってもそれは同じで、ジェレミー・スタイグ（ｆｌ）との諸作（「ＥＮＥＲＧＹ」等）やマハヴィシュヌオーケストラの諸作等にその天才ぶりが記録されていますが、何と言っても１９７５年にネンペラー・レーベルより発表されたこの初ソロリーダー作（日本盤題名「万物の創造」）にこそ、そうした天才ぶりが遺憾なく発揮されています。その後、ロックやポップスに進んでしまったのが（ジェフ・ベックまではよかったですが）、個人的には誠に才能の浪費で残念でした。もっとこの天才的な鍵盤タッチのフレーズに触れたいと思われた方は是非、同年、ＰＭレーベルより出されたエルビン・ジョーンズの「オン・ザ・マウンテン」というアルバムを探してみて下さい。ハマーがオリジナル３曲を提供し、素晴しい演奏を披露しています。

マハヴィシュヌのキーボードプレイヤーにして、ジェフベックとのセッション等でも有名なヤンハマーの75年発表の初リーダー作です。旧約聖書の「創世記」をテーマとしたコンセプトアルバムになっており、日本盤発表当時のアルバム名は「万物の創造」でした。vnやperのプレイヤーが参加した曲もありますが、基本的には、ヤンハマーによる多重録音で作られています。サウンドは、プログレ、フュージョン、中近東っぽいもの、イージーリスニング的なもの等々、バラエティに富んでいますが、何れもが、70年代のキーボードプレイヤーに聴かれた暖かみのある電子音を基調としていることが特徴でしょうか。コンセプトアルバムということからも、アルバム全体を通して、想像力に富んだ刺激的なサウンドになっており、70年代のkeyサウンドやコンセプトアルバムの好きな方にお奨めのアルバムです。

聖書の神の創造の一週間をMotifに音楽化した全7曲で、
一人多重で創ったJan HammerのKeyboard Playerとして
Senseが素晴らしいAlbum。

内容は今で言う所のFusion,Progressive Rock,World Music,
New Ageと多岐に渡っています。

1Darkness/Earth in Search of a SunはJeff Beckの
Live With the Jan Hammer Groupにも収録されていますが
その演奏のTensionの高さはこちらが上だと思います。

そして最終曲7Seventh DayはLight Fusionとして
癒し系の美しい曲と思います。

Techno等とは違った、手弾きの演奏でのElectricな音楽で
そのどれもが人の手による音楽の優しさが詰まっています。

今からウン十年前にLPで持っていたので、CDとして
出ているのを見つけ即購入しましたが、今でも40:06の
音楽によるImaginationの旅を楽しめました。
