清朝末期の伝説のヒーロー方世玉、
実在したとも、しなかったとも、
李連杰が『新・少林寺（真・少林寺とは別）』で演じた
洪煕官の親戚だったとも言われている謎多き人物ですが…

それはさておき、この作品は「強い！速い！美しい！
南派小林拳の名手にして強烈なマザコン方世玉」と、
世玉に負けず劣らず「強くて！おちゃめで！悪知恵が働く世玉ママ」が大暴れする、
パワフルで楽しいノンストップムービーです。

ここ最近『HERO』の無名や『B.D.』のスー・ダンカンのように、
感情を押さえた、寡黙な役の続く李連杰ですが、この作品の中の彼は、泣いたり、笑ったり、怒ったりと、実に表情豊かです（若かったということも有るかもしれませんが）。

自身は過去のインタビューで、「素顔の私は、方世玉より黄飛鴻に近い」と語っていましたが、【方世玉＝李連杰】と錯覚させられる程に、この作品の中の彼はイキイキとしていて、観る者を楽しませてくれます。

とにかく全てのキャラクターが個性豊かに、生き生きと
描かれています。

リンチェイ演じる世玉くんは、武術の達人。
強い強い。でもママには弱い。
この映画では、女装したり、友達を殺されて怒ったり、
ママと楽しそうにしゃべったり、本当に色々な
表情のリンチェイが見られます。

アクションとコメディ、ドラマが三位一体となった、
究極の娯楽アクションムービーといえるでしょう。

観客の頭上のアクション、宴会場でのアクション、
床下のアクションなど、アクションのバリエーションはとにかく豊か。
古装束映画の醍醐味を堪能できること、間違いないし！

ワン・チャイシリーズで、リンチェイのあとを引き継いで
黄飛鴻を演じたチウ・マンチェクの悪役も、
切れ味鋭い動きで魅了します。

なんだかギャグ一杯で笑えました。人の頭の上でというちょっとすごいのかおかしいのか分からないバトルや走るとあまりの速さに辮髪が真っ直ぐになるなど、見所･笑い所はたくさんです。母親役のジョセフィン・シャオがまたいい味出してます。

でも一番のお勧めはやっぱり、リンチェイの笑顔でしょう。役どころがまだやんちゃな若者といったところなので、彼の屈託のない笑顔はぴったり。あの笑顔にやられます。
