デヴィッドの３０年以上のキャリアで、最高のアルバムを一枚挙げろと言われたら、僕はなんの迷いもなくこのアルバムを挙げます。

このアルバムには彼の愛する、ブルース、Ｒ＆Ｂ、ソウルが溢れています。
声も今と比べるとずいぶん若いですが、彼の持ち味であるソウルフルな歌唱が聴けます。
個人的には、「サーペンス・アルバス」~「スリップ・オン・ザ・タング」のパワフルながらもヒステリックな歌唱はあまり好きになれません。

それにしても、楽曲の素晴らしさ。
そして彼のヴォーカル。
彼のキャリアの中でも群を抜いています。

このアルバムは商業的には成功しなかったらしいですが、デヴィッド・カヴァデールを語るなら、絶対に外せない一枚です。

このソロ２作目は、第一作目の『Whitesnake』よりずっと
良くなっている。ハードな「Keep On Giving Me Loving」や
「Breakedown」を除くと、アレンジもぐっと洗練され
ＡＯＲアルバムのような印象さえ受ける。
また、「Keep On Giving Me Loving」の曲中のリフの一部
は後に『Coverdale Page』の「Don't Leave Me This Way」
で使われている。

７８年発表の２ｎｄ。前作にも参加したミッキー・ムーディ（Ｇ）、サイモン・フィリップス（Ｄｒ）、そして新たにアラン・スペナー、トニー・ニューマン、ティム・ヒンクレイらを迎えて製作されたアルバム。前作よりもハード・ロック的な要素が強く、メンバーはミッキー・ムーディ以外は一新されるものの、ホワイトスネイクの原形と捉えても良い曲も含まれている。しかしながら全体としてはヴォーカリストとしての作品となっており、ハード・ロックにこだわった形跡はない。曲的にはフリーと雰囲気が似た曲が多く、カヴァーディールの資質を考えるとかなりハマっている印象だ。
パープル時代を感じさせるファンキーなハード・ロックの１．どことなくビリー・ジョエルを彷佛とさせるバラードの２．ルーズなオールドタイム風ビッグバンドの３．フリーをハードにしたかのような５．などはポール・ロジャースのクセまで取り入れて歌っている。そっくりだ。６．もフリーとパープルを足して２で割ったかのような分かりやすい曲。７．はアル・クーパーあたりを彷佛とさせるソウルっぽい曲。ほぼホワイトスネイク・・・と言うよりもモロにレインボーと言った雰囲気のハードロックの８．は最高の一曲。ドライヴするギターに思わずリズムを取ってしまう。ボーナスの９．はファンキー・タッチのハード・ロックで、かなりの完成度が高いがシングル曲か？粘っこいリズムとソウルフルなバック・コーラスが素晴しい。カヴァーディールにぴったり過ぎるほどハマった曲だ。１０．もライト感覚のポップな曲で西海岸風のバック・コーラスが素晴しい。ボーナス曲は共に一味違った名曲なので、どうせ買うならボーナス・トラックに入ったものがお薦め。
