　「チェンジ・イズ・ゴナ・カム」１９７０年代初めてプレーヤーを回した時の感動。教会の屋根をも振るわせたであろう恐ろしく悲しく透きとおった魂の響き。サム・クックを知らない方にはまずこの曲を聴いてほしい。その他、グッド・ニュースの軽快なリズム。それからテネシー・ワルツ。こんなテネシーワルツもあるんだと思わせるすぐれもの。その他のサム・クック代表ナンバーは入っていないものの初めての方にはまずこの１２曲を。星１つ足りないのはそのせい。ただ、かつて私がＬＰレコードで聴いたものより音質が良くなっている。柳ジョージも愛したサム・クック。あまりにもあっけない一生だっただけになおさら甘く愛おしい。

前半の曲に較べると後半の曲が甘いです。ナット・キング・コールかアンディ・ウィリアムスか、という位に。ソウルを期待して聴くとズッコケルかも。そのあたりが平気な方には名作です。ただ唄は驚異的に巧いです。オーティス・レディングあたりから遡ってきた、という方には編集盤かハーレム・スクエアでのライブのほうがオススメです。

映画マルコムＸでも使用された超有名曲「Change Is Gonna Come」も入ってるので
初心者でも聞きやすいと思います。（私もこのアルバムから入りました）
この才能に日本で対抗できるのは北島サブちゃんか美空ひばりしかいないです。
