   島根県平田市にある、全校生徒20名足らずの小さな小学校に赴任してきた教師・静香（中村麻美）は、ひとりの生徒・好平が海上に見える白いフェリーに魅せられていることを知り、その船長（竜雷太）宛てに手紙を書かせ、それをきっかけに船と子どもたちの交流が始まる。やがて好平は近くで船を見たいという一心で、祖父の船を駆って海に出るが……。
   島根県の小学校の実話をもとに、地元出身で『守ってあげたい！』などで知られる錦織良成監督が、素朴でみずみずしいタッチで描いたヒューマン・ドラマの佳作。教職に自信をなくした若手教師の心の再生の物語にもなっており、中村麻美の好演が印象的。中村嘉葎雄、大滝秀治、宮下順子、山口美也子といったベテラン・キャストも、彼女や子どもたちを巧みにサポートしている。音楽は角松敏生が担当。（的田也寸志）

白い船、メインのストーリーもいいのですが、私は塩津の空の青さと木々の緑があまりにきれいなのに感動しました。そして夏の日のせみ時雨を聞いていると、遠い昔の自分の少年時代に戻っていくような不思議な感じにとらわれました。

子供らしい心の動きが素直に表現されている良作だと思います。何気ない話なのですが、涙してしまいました。気持ち良く泣きたい人にお勧め！

嵐の場面を除けば、静かな、落ち着いた映画。画面は、青い海と空を背景に、白い船が沖合を通っていくという、なんと言うこともないが、しかし、美しく、印象的。物語は、この船と生徒達の交流を描いて、なんと言うこともないが、しかし、純粋で心に残る。先生が生徒の乗った白い船と親の漁船が手や旗を振り合うのを見てつぶやく・・・「船を見ているだけなのになぜ涙が止まらないのだろう」。そういう映画です。
