   Morelenbaum2/Sakamoto の第2章『A Day in New York』は、このトリオの2002年のデビュー・アルバム『Casa』のムーディーでエレガントなところを受け継ぎながら、構想を一部切り捨てたり拡張したりしている。アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンの多岐にわたる作品群をカヴァーした内容であること、比較的知名度の低い楽曲にも手を伸ばしていることは『Casa』と同様だが、今回のMorelenbaum2/Sakamotoはそれだけに留まってはおらず、新たなジョビンのカヴァー5曲、ほかの作曲家の作品3曲に加え、『Casa』でも取り上げた作品3曲のニュー・ヴァージョンをも収録。

   今回のセッション（ツアーの終わりにスタジオで行われた）は、ムーディーなデビュー・アルバムよりややアップビートな演奏となっている。にもかかわらず、音楽はまたしてもため息ものの素晴らしさだ。ギタリストのルイス・ブラジル、パーカッショニストのマルセロ・コスタが助っ人に加わったことも大きいのだろう。ハイライトとしては、名曲「Desafinado」、ジョアン・ジルベルトの「Bim Bom」と「Insensitez」がある。いずれも過去最高といっていいほど見事な仕上がりだ。

   ロマンスへのせつないまでのあこがれ、センチメンタルな演奏、昔ながらのボサノヴァがもつ味わい深い抑制がいっぱい詰まった『A Day in New York』は、優秀なデビュー・アルバムを引き継ぐにふさわしい秀作といえるだろう。（Tad Hendrickson, Amazon.com）

昨今多種の音楽ジャンルというものが存在するが、
この作品はそんなつまらない既成概念など吹き飛ばしてくれる。
確かに、A・C・ジョビンの作品を中心に構成されてはいるが
聴く側からすれば、ただすばらしい音楽作品なのである。
クラシックも、ジャズも、ブラジルもすべてのニュアンスが
詰まっているが、坂本龍一とモレレンバウム夫妻にかかると

それ以上のなにかに楽曲は変化するのだ。
落ち着いた楽曲群が多いが、あえてここでは
Samba Do Aviaoをお勧めしておきたい。
スリリングかつ落ち着いたその演奏は引き込まれること
請け合いである。
最後に待っているしかけはニヤリとしてしまう。
ここからは聴いてのお楽しみ。
今年の夏の新譜はこの一枚で決まり！

ライブツアー終了の翌日にスタジオで収録したとのこと。ライブ演奏の熱気をそのまま引き継いだスタジオ録音、とでもいうのでしょうか、この演奏にはどこか、くつろぎとバイタルな感じがあります。正直のところ「カーザ」での坂本龍一氏の演奏にどこかちんまりまとまった小綺麗さを感じていた者としては、このCDはうれしい誤算でした。ボーカルの美しさも再認識しました。

”ボサノヴァ”のクラシック的な面を全面に出した感のある前作（CASA)に比べて、ブラジル度が倍増し、＜軽快で自然なリズム＞や＜ブラジル的なハーモニー感覚＞を、沢山盛り込んだ仕上がりになっている。このユニットでの演奏体験を重ね続けて来た成果が、よく感じられる。選曲も、ジョビン作品に留まらず、ジョアンの”BIM BOM”を坂本流にオシャレに加工したものや、カエターノの不朽の名曲”CORACAO VAGABUNDO”まで、自分達の好みを反映しつつも、今の時代に合った新しいボサノヴァの形を、自分なりの方法で打ち出している所はサスガ！！
