   2時間半に及ぶ8年ぶりの来日公演（2003年3月3日の武道館）を、生々しい音色で収録した、パール・ジャムの2枚組ライヴ・アルバム。デビュー・アルバムから最新作『ライオット・アクト』まで、これまで発表してきた7枚のアルバムの代表曲はもちろん、アルバム未収録曲や、ライヴででは滅多にやらないカヴァー曲も含め全32曲が収められている。中でも昨年12月に急逝したジョー・ストラマーに追悼の意を込めて捧げたクラッシュの「権利主張（NOW YOUR RIGHT）」のカヴァーは貴重と言えるだろう。グランジの生き残り改めアメリカン・ロックを代表する彼らの現在の息吹を伝える作品。（山口智男）

「ＲＥＬＥＡＳＥ」で静かに幕を開けるこのライブは、２００３年３月３日に日本武道館で行われた来日公演のオーバーダブ、カットなしの実況盤である。過去の代表曲と新作からの曲が違和感なく並ぶ最高のセットリストである。８年前武道館で「ＡＬＩＶＥ」を唄った記憶が今作の同曲を聴いているうちに甦ってきた。今作を聴けば誰もが「ブドウカンノマンナカ」へ行くことが出来る。

ありきたりのエンターテインメントではなく、生身でぶつかってくるライヴを展開しているPearl Jam。ゆえに共感しあったり反発しあったり、聴いているものたちのハートを常に揺さぶりつづけている。彼らのライヴは決して派手な演出など無いけれども、1曲1曲にこめられた大きなエネルギーを感じ取ることができるから、惹きつけられてしまうのだろう。「とつとつ」と話すエディのMCもライヴの魅力ではあるけれども・・・。代表曲以外にも"Know your rights""Last kiss"といった彼らの音楽的ルーツが窺えるカバーが聴けるのもうれしい。グランジの流行から完全に離れた、一つのアメリカンロックの形が聴けるアルバムである。

地方に転勤する直前、コンサート納めに武道館に行ったのを
昨日のように思い出します。もう２年以上経過するのですね。

２階のＳ席から見下ろす彼らのステージは、一言で言って
「素晴らしく巧い」でした。
安定感あり、それでいて熱いステージは、夢のような光景であり
あっという間に過ぎました。
（前のほうの席にいたクソ野郎がタバコを吸っていて、いかつい
　外人警備員に注意されていたのがご愛嬌）

筆者心の名曲「ＡＬＩＶＥ」をやらない日もあったので、もう
ないのかな・・・と思った瞬間に、奇跡のエンディング。
本当に、本当に夢のようなステージが、正にそのまま再現された
音源に感動以外言葉がありません。

さすがにこのライブ集を全部集める勇気はありませんが、
これだけは特別ですね。
