   本作『Segundo』以前のフアナ・モリーナは、少女時代から取り組んできた音楽を芽が出始めたところで断念し、母国アルゼンチンでもっとも人気のあるテレビ・コメディアンのひとりになっていた。しかし、7年のあいだ封印されていた本来の才能は決して失われてはいなかった。その証拠に、本作でモリーナは意表を突く楽しさを持った音楽をつくり出している。ため息にも似た優しいヴォーカルが、楽曲の独特な構造やアルバム全体の静けさに寄り添う。その様子は、休むことを知らない霊が電子的であると同時にラテン的な音響風景の中をさすらっているかのようだ。文化の壁にとらわれない抑制の効いたそのセンスは、どんなコレクションにおいても類いまれな輝きを見せる。この2作目のアルバム（1作目は1996年に母国でリリースされた『Rara』）は、LA在住中にクラブ出演の合い間をぬって制作されたものだが、モリーナのセンスがますます冴えわたっていると言えそうだ。

   特異な構造を持つモリーナの曲たちは、執ようで物悲しいギターや、プロデューサー／コラボレーターのアレハンドロ・フラノフによる泡立つようなシンセ・リフに後押しされ、そよ風に乗って白昼夢の世界に逃避していきそうだ。モリーナによれば、このアルバムは半睡状態の中でレコーディングされたという。このように「意識の流れ」的手法への傾倒を見せる作品だけあって、犬の鳴き声、時計の針の音、熱帯雨林のサウンドスケープなどがリズミックなコーラスを形成し、多彩に展開する。その繊細きわまりない調べは、まるで音の幻のよう。ここに何とも柔らかなシンセのうねりが加わり、モリーナの甘美で夢心地のヴォーカルが重ねられる。さらに印象深いのは、モリーナのソングライティングに不可解で無意識的なセンスが見受けられることだ。1曲目から最後の曲に至るまで、真の音楽的冒険と言える素晴らしい内容に仕上がっている。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Juana Molina is an extraordinary singer/songwriter/producer. Juana's music flows from her acoustic guitar, off-kilter electronic sounds and rhythms, while her voice is soothing and mesmeric. Segundo, her international debut album, is a wonderful collection that bubbles with joy and is underpinned by the gentle grace that paved the path for the lavish praise awarded to her subsequent albums Tres Cosas and Son and saw comparisons to the likes of Beth Orton, Lisa Germano and Cat Power fly.

いわゆる音響系とカテゴライズされているアルゼンチンの女性アーティスト、フアナモリナのセカンドアルバムです。
アコースティックギターと控えめのエレクトリックな音源に乗せて、フアナ嬢のささやくような美しい歌声が響きます。

ベッドの上で本などを読みながら聴いていると、そのまま心地よくベッドの中に沈みこんでいけるような感覚を抱かせてくれる音楽。静かで繊細なのに芯があり、気持ちのいいやすらぎの時間を演出するＢＧＭとして最適です。全体的にはどちらかといえば少し重めな気がしますが、四曲目の「Que Ilueva!」などは、天気のいい日のオープンカフェなどが似合いそうな軽やかさを持ってたりします。
クラシックやジャズを普段から聴く人や、エレクトロニカなどが好きな人には特にオススメだと思います。

現時点では三枚アルバムをリリースしているはずですが、日本には世界的に評価の高かったこのセカンドアルバムから入ってきているようで、ファーストアルバムは目にしたことがありません。その現状は残念ではありますが、同時にこのアルバムのクオリティーの高さを証明しているとも思えます。

ちなみに国内盤も発売しておりますが、解説の紙が一枚付いているだけです。三枚目のアルバム「Tres Cosas」はまだ国内盤しかないようなので、早く輸入盤を扱ってほしいものです。

これはかなりヤバイです、クセになります。
心地よくてたまらない・・・。

淡い色のアコースティックサウンドに、オーロラさながらに被さる幻想的なエレクトロニクスサウンド。グリッチノイズや、深い呼吸のようなビート。
そして、微熱を帯びた気だるいヴォーカル。
それらが渾然一体となって、時に重層的に、時にシンプルに、不思議な浮遊感を醸し出しています。
限りなく日常に近いのに、どこかとても遠いような…。

ジャケットも不思議な（てゆーか怖い）感じですが、ご本人はとてもお美しい方です。
本国はブエノスアイレスでのソニックユースのライヴの前座を務めたり、'03年の来日公演で山本精一らと共演したり…と、その筋のアーティストや音楽ファンから強烈にシンパシーを感じられているようです。

ビビっときた方は是非！

エレクトロニクスを多用しながらも無機質ではなく宅録特有の柔らかで優しい感触のサウンドに仕上がっています。また声も優しく染み入ってくるようで思わず聴き入ってしまいました。楽曲もポップで決して難解ではなく聴き易いです。完成度の高い素晴らしい作品です。
