アレックス・サドキンが手がけた最後のデュラン・デュランのアルバムです。リズム・セクションを強調し過ぎないミックス、エコー感の強いファンタジックな雰囲気、いろいろな楽器が渾然一体となったサウンド作りはすべてこの人のなせる技です。これ以降ナイル・ロジャースを起用してタイト＆ファンキーなサウンド作りになりますので、８０年代前半のニューロマンティック的サウンドはこのアルバムで最後になります（その後のArcadiaがありますが）。
８５年以降、イギリスの音楽シーンもスクリッティ・ポリッティを筆頭にホワイト・ファンク路線のサウンドが主流を占めるようになり（それはそれでカッコよかったのですが）、ロキシー〜ジャパン〜デュランと続いてきたブリティッシュなニューロマンティック・サウンドがぷっつり途絶えてしまったのは残念極まりないです。ここで途絶えてしまったことにより、その後ニューロマンティックは一時の流行＆時代遅れと見なされるなど、不運な扱いを受けていると思います。
そんな時代の流れを見ても、このアルバムは最後のニュー・ロマンティックの輝きと見ることができます。楽曲のよさも相まって、同時代を過ごした人には忘れがたい１枚と言えるのではないでしょうか。

とても丹念に仕上がっています。しかし、前作２枚の方が面白味は有るようです。
The Reflexはシングル・バージョンの方が迫力が有って良いと思います。
一番のお勧めはNew Moon On Mondayです。あとはInstrumentalですが、Tiger Tigerがスケール大で素晴らしい曲に仕上がっています。是非とも聞いてみてください。

５人のデュランのアルバム中ではこれが色んな意味でピークの作品だと思います。80年代というある意味特殊な時代において、このアルバムは全てを満たしていたように感じてしまいます。サウンドはもちろん、アレンジやルックス、ジャケットやPV、ライブにいたるまで全てが時代にマッチしていました。1枚目で実験的な模索をして、２枚目でアレンジ力がつき、この３枚目で「うまくやれた」的な感じです。大ヒットした「リフレックス」はシングルバージョンとは違うイントロですが、この曲はアルバムバージョンのイントロの方がカッコいいです。それに１・２枚目にはなかったアルバムを通しての流れがありますし、シングルカット以外の曲も名曲です。なによりも「7. Shadows On Your Side」を聴くためだけにこのアルバムを買って欲しいくらい良い曲です。（あくまで個人的な見解ですよ(笑)）
