ソウルだったりジャズだったりブルースだったりと様々な顔を見せるグルーヴバンド、PHONESの1stアルバム。１曲目の「the sun」の幻想的な始まりとヴォーカリスト竹本氏の囁くような耳に心地良い声で幕が開ける。２曲目の「I'm giving you my love」は彼らのメジャーデビューアルバム『GIVIN' YOU MY LOVE』にも収録されいる。リズミカルで軽快に体が動き出すことを禁じえない曲だ。このアルバムタイトルにもなっている「誓い場所」は静かな曲調であるが、彼らの内に秘める決然とした音楽に対する姿勢さえも感じられる。最後の曲、「sisiter」は優しい愛に溢れ希望の光のような未来感を含んでいる。ヴォーカリスト竹本氏の妹に捧げた曲だと聞くが、純粋な愛情世界を描ききった優れた作品。

1曲1曲それぞれに見せる詩的世界は異なり、その詞が伝えるメッセージから無限に広がる彼らの世界観を見つける事ができるだろう。更にそのようにして異なる小世界はこの『誓いの場所』で繋がりを持ち一つの集合体として存在している。あたかも有機体的世界観を体現しているかのようなアルバムだ。

初めて路上ライブで見たときに、余りのかっこよさに
足をとめてずっと見入ってしまいました。
コーラスが感動的な"Sister"は必聴です。
星マイナス1は、歌詞があまり好きではないので。
