　社会主義・共産主義が崩壊し、レーニンや毛沢東が忘れられつつある今、ますます輝きを増している革命家チェ・ゲバラ。他者を思いやって生きることができる社会の実現のために命をなげうったこの人物を知るにはもってこいの作品だ。

　彼を知る人は口をそろえて言う「ゲバラは本当に気さくな人だった。絶対に偉そうな態度はとらなかった。常に自分よりも他人を第一に考える人だった」。知ればしるほどゲバラの魅力に引き込まれる。

　革命家というと、普通はその人物の成し遂げた業績によって評価されるものですが、このゲバラという人物は業績だけでなく、その人柄で人々の信望を集めている極めて稀な例だと思います。今もなお、追悼式典には人々が進んで足を運び、彼を知るかつての同胞は皆その人物を褒め称える。

　普通に考えればあまりにも話しが英雄的でよくできているので勘繰りたくなってしまいますが、この映画の中に何度も挿入されるゲバラの写真を見ると、その眼差しには伝説は嘘ではないということを証明するような確かな説得力が宿っています。

　もちろん、ゲバラの考え方や行動に賛同するかしないかは全くの別問題ですが、あのジョン・レノンをして「カッコイイ」と言わしめた人物の記録を見ておくことは決して無駄ではないと思います。

　ところで、ちょっと蛇足になりますが、このＤＶＤは回想シーンなどで多用される白黒写真の上に字幕をかさねているので、全体的に字幕ががものすごく見づらいです。その点だけがちょっと不満ですね。
